It's stunning to me as often as you mention Tradestation being locked up that they manage to keep any customers at all if it can't take the pressure.

    Ditto.  I don't know if

Ditto.  I don't know if I'd have Matt's patience.  Is it because there has been a large investment in writing strategies in TradeStation's proprietary language?  But some converters to other languages seem to be available.

    We have tens of thousands

We have tens of thousands of lines of code in Tradestation and while we do some conversion, recently I've been porting stuff to tradingview, there are some pratfalls that are not immediately obvious.

For instance I was porting our proprietary Sine wave indicator based on Hilbert's Sine Wave and tradestation uses degrees while tradingview uses radians for basic trig functions.

Not an insurmountable issue obviously, but one that requires rewriting a good chunk of the math.

We're slowly building a library of functions on tradingview and will probably start porting more stuff there, but you have issues with total execution time for strategies which is an issue with some of our more math intensive stuff like the Long Bear trade.

There's no perfect solution, but it does seem like cloud / web app stuff is the future, and obviously tradestation hasn't done much beyond cosmetic changes in two decades.

"TradeStation hasn't done much beyond cosmetic changes in two decades." Yes, it's hard to believe...with all the new competition out there that they haven't done more. I can only put it down to the inertia of traders to remain at a broker they've been with.

    What do you see as

What do you see as missing from TS ?

My interactive broker was very slow this afternoon as well... Not sure why

yeah...Steve and I were just chatting about it.  Tradestation was locked up for Steve this afternoon as well, his comments "TS was locked up tighter than a bulls ass during fly season most of the afternoon"  Tradestation locks up on days when you have a ton of volume, a lot of tick data etc

Think about the lunacy of this: They built a platform that locks up on days where you might need it the most, such as capitulation days, or high volume churn days - it's useless. Those are days where you have big moves and a lot of volatility and potential to have big trades on - nope you better not use TS to monitor those trades

oh but don't worry, 2 years from now when the SPX is at 1500 and the general public hates the market and there's no volume - it will be rock stable solid

anyway no changes on the bear long for the SPY and ES -both continue to hold. I think an exit was being met at the highs but I was too busy trying to get it unstuck to alert anyone of that

    I don't know. I was

I don't know. I was using Tradestation heavy in the 2004-2006 time frame when SPX was about 1200 and it froze up all the time then too, LOL.  Have used Fidelity and TOS pretty much since. Hard to beat the charting in TOS and I can use to trade futures and forex, though their commissions a little higher, they will negoatiate if you're active. . Fidelity has best executions, especially on options and large stock trades.

    Yeah, went away from TS

Yeah, went away from TS years ago. "The 90s called and wants its software back!"

    Oof... funny.
