Anyone know how one might take advantage of the downside of
GDX/GLD if one can't short? (I can short, but just not in my IRA
account, which is where I'd like to use this).

Thanks. I was just looking at the GDX:GLD chart here on
the site, and was going to ask if anyone was shorting. Did
you see the article that ravun (I think) posted? The GDX
chart can be interpreted as a bearish wedge or rising channel, and
some think gold could break upwards. If this was to happen,
the GDX:GLD chart would get us out of our shorts, correct? I
jumped the gun and went short GDX on Thursday.

DZZ = double short gold
DGP = dbl long gold
DGZ = regular short gold
there is also UGL and GLL
Google Gold ETF's and you will find a link with all of them on one page.
