Sold my MDY that I

Sold my MDY that I bought on system signal. A 2 % gain was good enough for me. Still holding my SPY for signal.

Randy,   I'm not sure why anyone

Posted by dougmil on 27th of May 2011 at 12:05 pm

    Randy,

I'm not sure why anyone cares what you are doing outside the SPY system, which is the subject of this blog.

    I would prefer that posts

Posted by floyd on 27th of May 2011 at 02:47 pm

I would prefer that posts on the Spy System board be limited to information about the Spy System.  Other chat is distracting, and posts about other trading would seem more appropriate to the community board.  Hoping to keep this as simple as possible.

I am all for not posting about anything not related to the SPY system -- just like not posting anything not related to trading on the general blog..........but I understand why randy posted about MDY -- people have been exploring ways to use the system signals, etc.      Not like he posted a political opinion or something.   Lighten up.

    I agree as well Michael.

I agree as well Michael. I think it's helpful to hear other member's experience trading the system. I had also been thinking about trading IWM or MDY on a signal with part of my trading capital.

I have been using the system as a way to gradually get invested in some longer term 401k type investments as well and one of those is a small cap index. I noticed that the smallcap index did quite well on this last signal.

I'm sure Matt wouldn't mind as long as we all know that his results and research is based on trading SPY.

    I agree. While I don't

Posted by tumbler on 28th of May 2011 at 07:30 am

I agree. While I don't need to know every entry/exit of every trade, I would like to know what folks are trading with the system. What stocks/options/futures are you trading and what are the results? Are you doing something that is adding to (or detracting from) the overall results?

The shared learning experience of the community really helps me improve my trading and results.

    tumbler - I hope to

Posted by Michael on 28th of May 2011 at 08:39 am

tumbler - I hope to be contributing more in the near future, but thanks once again for the work you've done.  Your most recent spreadsheet is a big help....

    doug -- doesn't seem to

Posted by bkout3 on 27th of May 2011 at 02:08 pm

doug -- doesn't seem to me that Randy's post is out of line if we're going to talk about trading SSO, options etc. What if Matt ran the whole backtest with the Russell 2000 and it outperformed? Relax a bit -- it's a holiday      Smile

    No 20%?

Posted by burkmere on 27th of May 2011 at 11:08 am

You mean, you aren't waiting for the 20% gain? ;) Just kidding...the neat thing is we can do what we want. As long as folks don't complain when they sell too soon or hold too long. The system is designed to take advantage of markets that are stretched too much one way ( as I understand it) and thus favor a move the "other" way. Good luck.

    SO MANY TRADES?

Title: WHY IN AND OUT -IN AND OUT

    Lamb - in regards to

Posted by matt on 28th of May 2011 at 06:17 pm

Lamb - in regards to your question below

(I THOUGHT MATT SAID HIS SYSTEM ONLY HAS ABOUT 12 TO 16 TRADES ?YEAR WHAT IS GOING ON LATELY? DID SOMETHING CHANGE?)

The answer is that there is nothing out of the ordinary here with the recent trades. Just look at the trades and statistics, this should be obvious.

Guys all that I ask is that you take the time to look at the trades, the statistics and use your mind vs emotion etc so that you know what kind of trades the system does, I provide everything for you to do this.  For example some of members have taken the time to do spreadsheets comparing trades etc, and as a result these members understand how the system trades.  Therefore while you don't need to take the time to actually create whole spreadsheets, I suggest that you at least take the time to look at the trades and the stats so that you have a better understanding of the system. Also I know that it's hard, but try to be like a robot and keep emotion at bay because emotion and successful trading do not mix well.

For example, regarding the question above; the system has done 5 trades this year if you include new trades, and 6 if you include the trade that was exited in Feb (which was established in Dec so really it's only a 1/2 trade because it wasn't entered this year).  It's almost June now, so 5 - 6 trades this year is normal, and in fact it may be a bit below normal because the average is about 17 trades per year.  Also the last 2 trades (which includes this one) have been shorter trades lasting about 2 weeks for the last one and about a week for this latest one, those are within averages as well.  In fact most of the trades are shorter term trades like this these vs the mega trades that are held for 2 - 3 months (those trades are not the norm, what is the norm are these shorter time frame trades that generate 1 - 3% for SPY.  The system will go through times when it does 2 trades a month, other times it does one trade a month, and sometimes it will go a whole month without a trade.  Some trades are held for as little as 3 days, while some are held as long as 2 - 3 months.  So when reviewing the trade history is there anything out of the norm by these 2 trades in May?  not even close.

    yes of course, I don't

I'm not able to find futures quotes. Can anyone help me out? I usually just use CNN pre-market quotes but nothing there. Ok,, I'm a little amateurish with future quotes. ;)

burkmere -- many places I'm sure, but for one, google "bloomberg futures prices" and go to the link.

    Is this link any help?

Is this link any help?  Steve posted it a while ago:

Posted by Michael on 31st of May 2011 at 07:44 am

yes, I use that bloomberg app -- very easy easy to check futures, the indexes and a stock list when you're out.  works great.

    Thanks, Michael..

I did find that one a bit ago. Thanks for your help.

    That's an average.  Some years

Posted by ascr on 27th of May 2011 at 12:50 pm

That's an average.  Some years there's more, some less.  Have a look at the Trade Examples.  Oh, and fix your Caps Lock issue.  It looks like your shouting at us.
