kind of funny, the new system that I'm working on went long
yesterday at the close.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, I'm working on a system for
the S&P 500 similar to the GDX system in that it's totally
mechanical. I still have work to do on the system, probably
another few weeks anyway.
it's a swing trade system, all trades are entered at the close
of the day just like the GDX system, with the average hold time of
about 11 days or so, however some trades last as long as a month or
more, some trades are a few days, some are a week, and some are a
month. It does about 2 trades a month on average.
anyway my thought is that this will be a very good system for
those of you who want to trade the market, it kills buy and hold.
here's some statistics so far, though we hope to improve it
The system is based on the SPY going back to 1994, so it has a
lot of history behind it, and not only a year or two like most
systems.
The system has about 83% winning trades, with the max losing
trade at 4.2% since 1994 but the typical losing trade is about
1.2%.
The max consecutive losers is only 2, which is nice,
while the system has had 27 consecutive winners
I'll post some examples soon, but of course we're still working
on it.
This would make BPT the best service. The 2 systems this
and the GDX would take all the stress out of trading.
I personally don't use the watch list and find trading in
general just too confusing. For all the time and effort you put
into the updates each night its just too much information for me to
make a descision to place any trades.
The site is really geared to self directed traders which I am
not. I rely on other services for buy and sell
signals.
As a matter of fact if you just have 2 timing services for the
gdx and S&P you could probably just sell that as a separate
service and have a lot more subscribers.
Some people on the blog have asked for positive posts, and their
wishes are answered. This is extremely positive and promising.
Thank you, Matt, for not resting on your laurels but
continuing to work hard to improve BPT. This system sounds
like a major step in this direction.

Matt, do you think this system will be suitable for an IRA account where it is not possible to actually go short, but one must buy an inverse ETF?
Wow, great stats there - thanks BPT for undertaking
