TBT

Posted by junkmaylbox on 22nd of Dec 2008 at 10:39 am

Thanks, rp! I would have done it if I had more money. I bought UYM at the MA(50)=55 with a tight stop at 13.21. TLT's rising gives credence to this Christmas rally.

cspirit, How loose are your stops?I am comfortable with 2-3% stop losses, yet unfortunately they are often run out. I have to use 4-6% stop losses, which often defeats the point. I haven't figured out this stop thing yet :(

Posted by junkmaylbox on 19th of Dec 2008 at 03:33 pm

rp, What is the size of your stops on your swing trade positions, if I may ask? Do you use trailing stops or stops under the last low before the current way up (like Stan Weinstein recommends)? I am merely curious how you do that. I've never been good with stops myself :(. Thanks for your input here!

TBT is making a fresh low

Paint or Paper?

Matt mentioned that TBT would need to rise in order for a rally to take place. I am not seeing that happening so far. For what it's worth.

URE

Posted by junkmaylbox on 19th of Dec 2008 at 01:00 pm

rp, I understand you and concur with your observations. URE is a risky trade at this point and the upside is limited to its current highs (160 on $DJR, as drorlando said). I am currently only 10% invested on the long side, and I will not go above 20% at this point. Thanks for your comments and enjoy your wins away from these markets :-))! Best, Roy

Matt, could you please give the meaning of that indicator (886) on your chart then?

So it's 14.00 or MA(20)=13.39 then. I'd rather buy at MA(20), if we could get to it. Thanks for your comments!

rp, What your desired entry

Posted by junkmaylbox on 19th of Dec 2008 at 11:41 am

rp, What your desired entry points to UYM and URE, if you are considering those trades. We are the the lower trend line now, however I would expect more downside from here because we are on the options expiration day. Thanks for your comments on these!

Guys, Please keep posting on the forum. I am interested in the same possibility. Thanks!

Matt, could you please post respective charts from UYM and URE similar to your chart of SPX? If you could, of course. I am seeking an entry point to both to play the Christmas rally. Thanks in advance! -Roy

Not necessarily. Before Friday options

SPX

Not necessarily. Before Friday options are being killed by bringing the market lower. It's a common trick.

I bought UYM on a pullback at 14.65. My stop is at 13.99. It's on the watch list. My stop should correspond to breaking 880 on the SPX.

rp, With most traders like yourself on a vacation next week, the market could stage a remarkable move up. I have a day job, so I'll do trading cautiously next week. Am looking forward to it, actually. The last two weeks of the year are typically rally weeks. For what it's worth.

rp, Today is going to be a whip-saw day, it seems to me. Tomorrow with option expirations we should have enough volatility to make some $$. Your charts are a big help, please keep posting them by all means!

SRS trumps SKF

Posted by junkmaylbox on 18th of Dec 2008 at 12:31 pm

rp, I tried entering SKF this morning and was shipsawed out my position (I had a tight stop). SRS trumps SKF so far by far. Good luck!

peterwelsh, Congratulations on your successful trade! These ultra shorts do not behave like stocks, so their prior history from even a month before is pretty much irrelevant. DUG has baffled me too, as it should have been at its highs when $OIL is at its lows. I haven't thought of using the BB for this purpose, thanks!

SRS

SRS has recovered about $1.50 in the after market, now up to 63. FYI.

Matt, You are right. I can usually beat the system by guessing the direction. Today was not my day, however. I had a line of successful trades on SRS, so I guess others were not too happy about me :(. I seemed to be forcing something today by goings against the market. Congratulations on your trade and your hunch, by the way.

The old adage "Buy low, sell high" applies. Today was low for SRS and SKF.
