looking good..first small comment: when you list the trades on
any system, it will be better to show them in reverse order i.e.
last one first. also break them into several pages. thus it will
not be necessary to load up 1000 trades and scroll down several
miles just to look at the last few (easier on yor servers,
too!)
isplat, I mean no disrespect and I apologize if I offended you
in any way...let me assure you, my views on these kinds of issues
are universal - I call them as I see them - I consider them equally
ridiculous in any country, society or religion.
Friday is their Saturday/Sunday = all is closed, I guess since
all these holidays overlap they decided to go home and come back
Monday...
re : Sukuk - I find it very entertaining to see people anywhere
trying to conduct business subject to some interpretation of
something someone said or wrote thousands of years ago...they then
twist themselves every which way inventing ridiculous ways to get
around it...if they really believe in the Word, how can they then
spend their lives working around it? It's like "I am not allowed to
charge you interest, but if I stand on one leg and sign this with
my left hand while winking, it's ok"...
Bottom line: A sovereign-backed large real-estate developer in
the UAE seems to be going under...take you pick of
possible/probable ramifications...
1. don't see any controls for panning - rightclick doesn't
respond like in other Google maps - submenu e.g. "center map
here"...zooming using the scroll button works ok but then map runs
off the screen.
2. is it possible to allow us to try to connect to "neighbors"
through you? I see someone in my area which is pretty unusual - I
am in Lakefield ON Canada "in the middle of nowhere" and I see
someone in Peterborough which is pretty close - I want to connect
with him/her if they agree - how do we arrange that? This will
create more work for you - which you don't need - so how about, for
example, give us all numbers which will show on the map, and
provide a feature to send a private message to that number from my
number i.e. the communication is anonymous until we both agree to
reveal ourselves (I imagine this is how it works with internet
dating although I never used these services!)
Neat feature and will become more useful as time goes
by.
Matt, this reminds me - whatever happened to the dynamic links
you used to have at the top as "sticky notes"? do you have the
sticky feature here? it's very useful!
also: the title of the thread should be carefully set up by the
creator of the thread and never change after that - it is wrong and
pretty useless to have a different "title" for every message,
especially if all it is is the first word(s) of its text - a thread
is a thread and should stay with the same title so it is easy to
follow. the originator must make sure it is a good title and
describes the thread and not useless generic stuff like
"interesting..." or "did you see that" etc.
The same should happen to the "designation" (topic) - all
replies in a thread should automatically have the same topic as the
original - otherwise if you follow a thread while under "education"
you are going to miss some of the entries! (the whole topics thingy
should be thrown out anyway, in my opinion)
the most important feature missing on the blog is the number of
posts on a page - too few. everything else is secondary.
one thing I would like to see: when you click on a thread
header, it will open up right there on the same page like the old
blog used to do - perhaps even just the last 2-3 entries, then
"...more" if there are more. many threads only have a few entries,
and it is a waste of time to have to go to a new page then come
back. Also if I am following a thread chances are I already saw the
earlier posts and only want to see the new recent ones.
I'd like to suggest to your programmer to try to actually use
this blog on a slow-medium speed connection during a real live day
- it might give him a different perspective. I am a programmer
myself and often do this - I find it very beneficial to put
yourself in the user's shoes - people may have older/slower
computer or slower connections and the thing should fly even on
these.
one last point: don't let the fun of fixing/upgrading the site
take you away from the real work you do here so well, especially in
these very difficult times!
- feels bloated and sluggish - not everyone has a
super-high-speed connection...
- pages too short
- I am online now but my name doesn't show (no big deal but is
this even a useful feature? makes for long empty pages)
- when replying I should not be asked below to "designate" it
from the list of topics - the designation belongs to the original
entry! Also this whole Topics business is artificial and arbitrary
and not very useful in my opinion - I always use "All" anyway. What
topic does this discussion on the blog belong to?
-also the "select...designation" below should be a selection
list with a separate button for "Submit)
- first impression: no big deal - using "recent" and "all"
guarantees you don't miss anything - time-stamp on all expanded
entries is good (I asked for it so I am happy it's here!)
the silly thing doesn't work! I should not be challenged if I
try to get to the recap by clicking on Matt's link inside the blog
while I am already logged in! entering the user/pwd doesn't work at
all!
no need to come to Matt's defence - certainly not from from me -
I am on his side...I was actually trying to give him a little
advice (like he really needs it...) by agreeing with Bill Rosen
here, and pointing out that it is not a good idea to tell people
after the fact that he made a good call on anything, when perhaps
the official published comments were not so clear...best to just
have the comments and let people decide whatever they want...I am
fully aware of the fine line they need to walk to steer away from
"investment advice" etc. Matt's comment "Next time I just wont say
anything, hows that." is really the right approach, even though he
sounds a little peeved (you really shouldn't be)...that's basically
what I was suggesting - if you don't tell, nobody will be able to
criticize you.
By the way, I know of other people in this business who simply
tell you what they do and seem not be caught by the regulators -
seems that if you do this right away and tell people everything you
do and make sure you don't "front-run" your recommendations, you
are ok - but I am not an expert.
Bill/Matt/Steve, I can't remember exactly when exactly this
occured, "Matt you mentioned you bought GDX the night before it
broke out in anticipation of that break out. When you covered GDX
you did not say to buy in advance of the move and said wait to see
if it can break out, etc." but there is a very simple way to solve
this: Matt/Steve should not announce after the fact - perhaps a day
later - that they made a trade and how great it worked. Either they
tell us EVERY TIME, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEY ENTER OR EXIT A POSITION
what they did (also stops set up, if any), or NOT AT ALL. I think
telling people after you make a trade is legit and will not be
considered giving investment advice but that's not my call - if
they (Matt/Steve) are worried about this, they should not tell us
anything, but also refrain from telling us about a great trade
later - this may be considered "boasing" and just pisses people off
and invites criticism, and serves no purpose. They could, however,
present some instructional material saying "this is what we saw and
this is what we did and this is why we did it" so people can learn
from that - but this material should show both good and bad calls -
we should see that they make mistakes too.
whatever happened to this chart/indicator - you used to love it
and show it all the time in the daily updates and followed it - it
just disappeared one day and never came back? did it lose its
value, stop working or we have something better to replace it? It
just crossed up a couple of days ago.

Dynamic Stockchart Links

nice to see active new improvements here and the chance to participate in the design by making useful suggestions (like mine below... )
- items showing in expanded threads should be in reverse date/time sequence, i.e. latest one first.
- 50 posts per page is too many - how about something in between 20 - 50 or let us choose our own?
- expanding the thread on the same page is the way to go rather than going to a new page.
