I do not use Twitter, so I have not read what you are reffering
to. But, calling someone "scum" for sharing their strategy settings
is in my view completely out of line. I have shared my MA cross
settings with fellow traders. I use a 10 minute SRS chart with
25/32 SMA. Now, if you tell someone these settings does that make
you scum?
Just so you are aware, MA cross systems are probably the most
common of all trading systems. Nobody owns them, they are not
patented. They have been around for a long time and if you google
"trading system" or "strategy trading" you will likely find
hundreds, if not thousands, of references to them. The TradeStation
website has literally thousands of posts regarding these systems.
Do a search on Amazon and you will find dozens of books which
describe these simple systems. They are not secret. Anyone can find
settings that work by back testing and optimizing. Two people who
back test and optimize the same time frames using common and
accepted methodology should come up with the same settings.
Finally, ideal strategy settings change with changing market
conditions. What worked six months or a year ago may not work today
or next month. That means any trader using a system must always be
reviewing its performance and that may lead to changing the
parameters.

Sure there are many mechanical crossover systems out there and
many sources of information on them, but to take a specific system
created on BPT's and then share it, or perhaps profit from it, with
people outside this website is total BS. It will potentially ruin
the SRS system if the masses start to trade it. It is no
different than buying a CD or some other piece of data and copying
it and then selling it on EBAY or Craigslist, thus STEALING from
it's creator. I would say SCUM is on target.

If you think about it that does not make sense. The reason TA
works is because so many people use it. Just like if a bunch of
traders use a system it will work. There are about ten
thousand people on Twitter posting these things as the trades
come.
I agree with you on a couple things for sure...taking someone
elses system and saying it is your work...SCUM....taking someone
elses hard work and selling it for YOUR profit....SCUM. But sharing
information is what the internet is all about. There are atleast
3-4 other sites on the net that have these mech systems we use. I
say whatever....that puts the volume in our favor BECAUSE more
people know about it.
But let's not clutter the blog with this kind of useless
banter..

DocM,
Two comments on what you wrote, if you allow. Knowledge is not
free. You paid for your education, didn't you? Two, TA is a bunch
of agreements and mechanical systems are knowledge about those
common agreements. They are very different.
I am personally very dismayed that because of his knowledge
being stolen, Matt would not be inclined to develop and share it
with the site any more.
anybody that take's matt's system and spreads it all over the
web.....this compromises results for us that pay for this
website......and they are double scum if they claim matt's system
as their own.
if they post it and call it their own creation, well yes but if
they got it from someone else and are just posting the signals,
that's fine because they didn't know and things like this get
around the web quickly.
In the future we might have to make the systems more of a black
box, especially if the systems are really good.
anyway, let's not talk about this during the trading day, let's
keep posts related to market analysis, thank
