the system ends at End of Day. If you had a signal at 3:45
you should still be out at 3:59. If you had a cross on the
4:00 candle, then there is no trade at the open of the next candle
because there is no next candle. So that's it for
today. Tomorrow is a new day.
It looks like you have an extra hour or so of trading that
affects your EMAs, so your signals will be slightly off. I
don't know for sure about whether to trade at the open
tomorrow. My formula _will_ trade based on the crossover on
today's last candle, since it treats it as the previous bar.
The "official" answer would depend on how Matt's backtesting
implemented it. I may revise my formula to take the trade if
the price is above the EMA, and don't trade if below since a
whipsaw is likely then.
My mistake. I had weekends included somehow. I manually bought
SRS today, but officially Ninja says it did not cross. Sorry for
the confusion. Good luck tomorrow!
Hmm, now I'm confused. On SRS if 9 crosses above 39 on the last
bar of the day and the rules say we don't take that signal
for tomorrows open regardless of opening direction (true???)
then it seems like the next signal we can take will be whenever 9
crosses below 39 again. I would think that the first bar that could
happen on would be the first bar of tomorrow and then the entry
would be at the open of the second bar. Have I got it wrong?
I'm confused too. Looks to me like during the the last
15-min bar of the day, the 9 EMA crossed and closed above the 39
EMA. Generally that would mean to go long, but of course we
don't do that at 4pm. Doesn't that mean we automatically go
long at the market open tomorrow morning? I don't understand
how a morning gap would matter (except maybe to alert us of a
possible whipsaw in case the market gaps up hard). The gap
won't change the fact that there was already a EMA cross.
trip -- two things -- first, I'm confused now because I put 9/39
on a 15 min SRS chart in TS and I get a cross during the 3:00 to
3:45 candle. I don't know why everyone has different crossing
candles and matt has no crossing candle. But if my cross
happens to be accurate, that means a trade would be entered at the
start of the 3:45 - 4:00 candle. But, with my programming at
least, that trade would then be exited at 3:59 anyway. The day is
over. So you would go into tomorrow flat and waiting for a
down cross.
If you have a cross on the last candle, the 3:45 - 4:00 candle,
the trade does not happen because there are no more candles.
The day is over. You go into tomorrow flat and waiting for a
downcross. If you bought at the open tomorrow based on the
close today, it would not be an end of day system.

I do not show an entry for the 9/39 SRS system. The cross of the
MA's occurred such that a trade would have entered on the OPEN of
the 4:15 Candle - which obviously will not happen. Now I have seen
instances where a cross like this will create an entry on the
open tomorrow. If I were trading the system, I likely would let the
market open and see what happens - especially if there is going to
be a gap.
I noticed that if your chart is set to regular session, the
system took a trade on the 1600 candle. But this is an
inaccurate setting for the system.
just to clarify -- I just blew up my chart and the cross
yesaterday did occur on the last candle as Robin
said.................so as she said and I said.........that means
no trade.
Michael thanks for explaining things clearly. There's confusion
about the cross even from the blog because you can see Matt's chart
on the blog has the cross but I guess from what he said that his TS
chart did not have it. Just to be sure regarding methodology -- can
you point to a post from Matt regarding the handling of a cross on
the last candle (regardless of what happened today). I just want to
be sure that my backtests and trading rules are in line with Matt's
backtests. no offense to your understanding I hope -- just want to
nail this down.
looks perfect. Nice. I can't confirm the actual
signal because I'm not trading that system, but had wanted to say
to mama that if there's a cross at 4:00, there's no trade......Nice
chart.

I have the system running both on TS and Fidelity WLP and
neither of them crossed until 4 pm. No trade today. either at the
open tomorrow or not at all.
