Google removing ratings - off market topic

    article, https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/28/22255245/google-deleting-bad-robinhood-reviews-play-store

To me that's BS. while I understand Googles policy to prevent manipulation of ratings, HOWEVER to me those are real reviews, people pissed were giving 1 star ratings. It's not like someone created a 'bot' that was adding a bunch of fake bad reviews, this is from legitimate people who were/are pissed. The flag is that 1000's of them occurred on the same day, but of course you would expect that with the situation with Robinhood

magically Robinhood's app ratting is back at 4.7, it had fallen to a 1 out of 5

Very scary control of our conversations and opinions have become mainstream.

Does anyone know if they (Robinhood and other brokers) were liquidating stock on margin only or if they were liquidating stock purchased with cash?  Because I think it makes a difference- stock bought with borrowed money or stock bought with client money.  The former is bad, the latter inexcusable (IMO).

    I don't know, yes liquidating

I don't know, yes liquidating if someone was on margin makes sense given the volatility of the stock and potential to have huge swings that could bankrupt the customer where the brokerage would have to cover. However I have seen reports from people who say their positions were liquidated who were not using margin who were long shares outright not on margin, If true that's a big problem, but I don't know if that's true or not.

    in fact I'm scared even

in fact I'm scared even talking about it here for fear BPT will get flagged by Google or something and have traffic blocked, that's the state we are in.

Reminds me of the great Star Wars scene where Grand Moff Tarkin is asked "how will the Emperor maintain control" and he responds "fear, fear of this battle station".  Strange parallels, life imitating art, or whatever!

    some other examples non-stock related

some other examples non-stock related were from some media reviews.  Dave Chappelle's Sticks and Stones special how critics gave it 0% rating and audience gave it a 99% rating was one of the most one sided things I've seen.

Though as far as deleting negative reviews I guess a better example would be that Captain Marvel movie from a few years ago, most people didn't like the movie and gave it negative ratings on Rotton Tomotoes causing the rating to be 30% or something, then magically Rotton Tomoates starting removing negative reviews to bring the rating way up, Google did a similar thing . enough of my soap box and back to trading, but this is the kinds of things that start to piss people off, feel like they have no control and all the control is with a handful of corporations, hedge funds, and gov entities.

thanks for sharing Matt. Doesn't surprise me. Anything Chappelle does is fantastic. He got so fed up with the business and machine, he quit years ago. Control has been there for many, many years. I can't think of one place it isn't
