Hmm, something I've been trying to figure out forever just fixed
itself. I can now trade CBOE index options (SPX, NDX, etc)
in IBKR after hours and still get the bid/ask midpoint on spreads
and use the roll tool with midpoint data available. I'm
trading it now just like we're in normal business hours. Finally!
If they would just allow fractional share orders after hours,
all would be well in the universe (in other words, I could be in
more time zones around the world and still trade effectively)

CBOE Index options also trade 23/5. They both get the same
tax treatment. Unfortunately, I have to go through another layer of
the FINRA registration process in order to trade
futures...essentially become a CTA (unless I use a second broker
where I don't declare professional status...which, of course, I
would never do
)
Not to mention that the streaming bundle (professional
pricing) necessary for trading futures is quite expensive. Whereas,
the real time market data for CBOE is essentially free (I think
it's $4.50 per month but waived because of commision
levels).
