Tried to trade UNG today.

Tried to trade UNG today. Tastyworks blocked the trade as UNG is closed to non USA traders! What is the rationale behind the decision?

    The stock is not available

The stock is not available but the CFD's are. Europeans need to get all the information concerning those etfs in their own language and whoever issues UNG (and so many other etfs) does not bother at all. This is a decision made by the EU in order to protect investors. But they allow us to trade options on UNG, which are of course completely  without risk

This rule applies to a host of etfs. Sometimes even CFD's are not available and then the only way to trade the product is to use options.

    new rules for foreign investors

new rules for foreign investors /traders  put in place by U.S.   gov

As a result of recent U.S. legislation, effective January 1, 2023, gross proceeds from the sale of and distributions from PTPs held by non-US tax residents (accounts which do not file W9 declarations) may be subject to 10% U.S. withholding tax.

Here is the impact to you if you hold a PTP position that has income effectively connected with a U.S. trade or business: If you sell the PTP after December 31, 2022, there will be a 10% withholding tax applied to the gross proceeds from the sale. Further details about this rule can be found on the IRS site.

Impacted PTPs can typically be identified if:
They withhold 37% on distributions (21% on distributions to corporations)

this includes a lot of ETFs   BOIL & COLD included

Try trading through a CCS on /NG futures instead.

    Thanks Junkie. What is CCS

Posted by mundy on 30th of Jan 2023 at 04:48 pm

Thanks Junkie. What is CCS ? I presently trade the MNQ and the MES contracts with a margin of $2k. What are the NG futures like in terms of margin?

call credit spread. Margin on /NG is huge, but with a CCS you could trade /NG with a small risk to your account on a smaller margin. Go out by at least 30-45 days out, 60 will be ok too to reduce time decay. I paid $1,600 for a CSS  into March.

Hi ! I am from Argentina, and was a fun of  trading UNG. Now I trade BOIL (be carefful as its 3xUNG). I trade using naked puts, or Put credit Spread. I like as the price is more cheap I buy new NP lowers..some day will go up..

    Thanks Heisenberg. When I try

Thanks Heisenberg. When I try the options on UNG, Tastyworks blocks the order. But the trade on BOIL went through like a charm.

Btw, I am getting a DeMark 9 Sequential Buy Setup on UNG after yesterday's close - does anyone else concur? I am tempted to scale-in nibble.................

crossharry, the only buy signal I see is from today being a potentially an inside day on /NG futures. And a demand zone.

    To clarify, the DeMark 9

Posted by crossharry on 31st of Jan 2023 at 08:36 am

To clarify, the DeMark 9 signal I am getting is on the UNG ETF (daily bar chart) rather than NG Futures - obviously correlated but not exactly the same.

naked puts, lol! You are only buying naked puts, right?

    yes, is better for me

Posted by heisenberg on 30th of Jan 2023 at 08:28 pm

yes, is better for me to buy the stock (when is cheap), becuse I receive the premium of the naked put. Always you may have the capital if you are assigned !
