My opinion, for what it is worth. It seems like the
attention is on sovereign debt and not so much the actual
currencies (dollars or euros). When the debt debacle is dealt
with and reality sets in, then attention will be focused on the
declining value of the currencies. It will be at this point
that gold makes a steady, unrelenting ascent (with pullbacks and
corrections that are healthly). When the path is clear for
gold, then the logic of the gold miners will become
undeniable. I don't see this happening until Q1 2012 or
later. We are not there yet. FWIW.

Meaghan,
The market is much (if not most) about psychology. We can
focus on the negative only so long and then we look for the
positive - regardless of whether it is there or not. Only
time will tell in any event. Regarding why so many individual
stocks are above their 50 dma - everything had fallen so
precipitously, and then rose again at such a steep incline in a
short period of time. The 50 DMA just kind of got left
behind, or sunk below the price. It will, however, catch up -
and perhaps with a vengeance.

Check out URRE, URG, URZ etc. Is this a concession to they
reality of energy (though it has its unpleasant side)? A
repeat of last fall? Comments welcom
Until gold stocks prove otherwise, they still trade in the
direction of the broader market (die-hard gold bugs find it hard to
believe this, however). Until the market breaks, I would
advise caution - because there is more downside possible. If
the S&P head south, so will the gold mine stocks. If they
do, then when the bottom is in place, there will be great
opportunities. The problem is that if you own and the market
crashes, you very well might bail out near the bottom after losing
big, and then be reluctant to enter when the rally begins.
I have listened to many gold "experts" who have said that when
the market falls, gold miners will hold up because of their
correlation to the price of gold. However. . . not only has
gold had a major correction (calling into question part of their
thesis) but even when gold held up early on in late July, the gold
miners nevertheless crashed like all other stocks. I think if
the market craps out for its bottom (1050 or below) gold miners
will fall with everything else. Then will be the time of
truth. Will they start their dramatic rise, or not?
Time will tell. For now, I would wait to see what the market
does. Let it fall if it will, and then you can pick up the
gold pieces. IMHO

Seeing how Buffett recently bought a stake in BoA and now it is
downgraded it bodes ill for his secretary. Not only does she
pay more taxes than he (got it from the Prez) but now she will
probably get a pay cut. More reason for Bernanke to let it
rip!!!!

Would be interested in feedback on how these 2 systems
compare. The Renko chart w/PSAR seems to get into longs and
shorts earlier (and at better prices for the trade) than the GDX
swing system. Any comments from any who have used both would
be appreciated.
Has anyone used ZJG.to instead of GDXJ for the Juniors? I
understand it is more of a pure gold ETF unlike GDXJ which has some
silver miners. Would appreciate thoughts.

Matt,
Thanks for the discussion particularly the part on money
management. I have listened to and read the works of a number
of quality people in this investment/trading game and they all
stress money management. It is probably the least listened to
part of their overall work for one reason: it requires
careful attention, discipline, and PATIENCE. Without
patience, we won't see the results, we lose confidence, and lose
the mental srength (virtue) that is the greatest
requirement.
So, to all those trading the SPY system, let's get in line with
reality. Let's get real!!
