Multicharts with IB data feed

Posted by gdstacey on 27th of Oct 2010 at 10:40 am

I'm using IB's data feed into MC and all works well, problem is I have to add individual stock codes manually each new symbol I want - a pain when trading watchlist items ! It looks like you should be able to import an ASCII file of symbols but IB technical support don't have this/don't support this. Anyone come across this one or have any idea on how to take this forward? Thanks in advance.

SIPP/UK systems

NASI 3 EMA system using QLD

Posted by gdstacey on 15th of Oct 2010 at 12:37 pm

Mike

I'm currently using Multicharts with Interactive Brokers (non SIPP) and with their UK data feed I can trade mechanical systems in sterling and ETF's listed on LSE such as ISF. With the right .ela etc code you should be able to do the long/long system (e.g. long ISF, long XUKS)

I've noticed that IB are now partnering up with some UK SIPP providers and in theory you might be able to do the above in such an account but I haven't checked into this as yet.

If you have Tradestation you might want to mine the TS Strategy section to download a copy of the code for the LeBeau Chandelier stops. I haven't set mine up yet but they look very good in theory

Counter party risks

Posted by gdstacey on 1st of Jul 2010 at 12:30 pm

Hi

I've been reviewing my options for short index instruments to hold for the long term (possibly multiple years) and am interested in peoples views on counter party risks. Having read previous posts I'm mostly steering away from 2X inverse funds partly because of decay issues. My 'short-list' currently reads as

1. Short the SPY

2. Short UK FTSE 1x inverse ETF's - LSE:XUKS (Deutsche bank)

3. Maybe small holding of short UK FTSE 2X inverse ETF LSE:SUK2 (Soc. gen)

Has anyone any views of inherent risks within capital structures of these vehicles or where/how to research this further - I've read some research suggesting DB might not be a great place to be because of its relatively weak capital structure

Thanks in advance for your help

GDX Renko 10 min

Posted by gdstacey on 20th of Mar 2010 at 01:46 pm

Hi

Has anyone succeeded in writing an automated strategy for the 10 min GDX renko. I can create the chart ok in TS but am a bit foxed on how to write the trading code!

Thanks

Graeme

Thanks Mike

I tried this and got it work for a bit but couldn't get it to work robustly and consistently and didn't have a great experience with the support people there

I don't easily give up on these things but after several weeks plugging away this was one of those rare occasions where I started to lose the will to live!

Thanks anyway

Graeme

Hi

I wonder if any of you have managed to find a robust piece of software for remote monitoring a PC via mobile/cellphone

Configuration I have is Windows 7 + Nokia E71 Symbian device

Thanks in advance

TradeBullet and IB/TWS settings

Posted by gdstacey on 27th of Jan 2010 at 12:29 pm

Hi

Is there any way I can avoid keying in the IB security card numbers on log on to my live IB account via TradeBullet. At the moment I can't use the auto or timed logon functionality within TradeBullet because of this, it is forcing me to key in the codes (e.g 34 134) - is there a setting I can trigger in TB or TWS to bypass this altogether?

Thanks in advance

Graeme

Hi

Could anyone please share what times (in EST) you have set for auto logon/logoff in Tradebullet to start up IB's TWS

Many thanks in advance

SMS text message alerts

Posted by gdstacey on 17th of Jul 2009 at 11:21 am

Hi

Does anyone use a service that sends out SMS messages when price or other criteria are met e.g. Share price >$1.50. I use www.advfn.comwhich covers shares, currencies and ETF's well but doesn't seem to cover commodities at all.

I'd like to receive SMS text messages for price criteria met on commodities such as oil, gold, silver etc, could anyone recommend a good service (preferably free!) for this

Many thanks

TS Mechanical systems

Posted by gdstacey on 27th of Jun 2009 at 05:28 am

Hi all

I'm a newbie to the TS Mechanical systems and would be grateful for advise before I spend some money on getting my programming done

I read much on this site about stock not always being available for shorting and am considering creating the strategy along these lines & combinations - i.e. when the short signal is given to go long the opposing ETF (but only taking the opposing ETF when the appropriate signal is given by the MA's crossing in e.g SRS etc)

SRS/URE, SKF/UYG, FAZ/FAS, SSO/SDS

I'd be grateful for any views or experience you have with this

Many TIA

UK Pensions

Time to scale back in ?

Posted by gdstacey on 18th of May 2009 at 01:35 am

Hi

I'm currently using Selftrade (with SippDealExtra) to hold my SIPP funds, I can use orders and stops but this is only available on UK quoted instruments - not much use for trading the picklist!

What do you use as a trading platform for your pension assets?

TIA
