Just thought I'd mention that on my FreeStockCharts.com 60 min
GDX chart, the GDX:GLD ratio went on a sell signal around noon
today. I'm still holding short from 60.10, and using your chart,
Matt, hopefully can make this short trade a profitable one. Don't
know that I'll wait around for the mechanical system to signal long
though!

look at a 60 minute chart. Price dropped from 61.30 to about 58
late last week into early this week, then turned and has been going
up slowly on lower volume. This latter move after a down trend is
known as a bear flag.

Matt, it looks like we'll get a GDX sell today, yet the GDX:GLD
ratio on the 60 min chart gave a buy signal this morning! I may
"override" the auto pilot and take her into "manual mode," sticking
w/ the ratio signal since I'm already long. Does this make any
sense? What say you? My only worry is the market overall seems
toppy.

another problem is radiation exposure and worker limits: once
they reach their limit, they must be pulled out and cannot return
since exposure is cumulative, and can't be relieved by a brief stay
away.

I definitely got the message that it's a shorter term trade.
Okay, so are suggesting now is as good a time as any to close the
position, given that it hit 95? Even if it's not near that now?
Posted by frtaylor on 15th of Mar 2011 at 03:19 pm
Actually I have to use DUST in my IRA since I can't short. I buy
exactly 1/2 the dollar amount I would have sold short of GDX. And
yes, 16% stop loss. But the position is half the size and so far
I've been able to handle it. The other alternative I've tried is
buying puts, but didn't like that due to degradation. (Though there
is degradation w/ any 2x etf as well.)

a 50% retrace of the drop from 61.30 to 58 would be at 59.70, and we're almost there. Might not be a bad place to exit, maybe 1/2.
