Does my brokerage see bearishness?

No - I'm SHORT the puts. :-)

And they are the 1700 strike puts. ES would have to go a LONG way down (all the way down to 1700) before those short puts would be losers.

Does my brokerage see bearishness?

Posted by sschulman on 26th of May 2017 at 03:26 pm

I've been short naked some ES 1700 puts for about a week. Today, Interactive Brokers notifies me that i'll be charged an "exposure fee". That's not a problem, and it's just a few pennies.

But here's the thing - why now? Why see my short put position as more risky now than last week? Has IB suddenly become more bearish on the market? Do they know something that we don't?

And of course Steve CONGRATS!

I remember when I first joined BPT, many years ago, you were talking about accompanying your son to his games. It's awesome to have family that encourages your kids to be what they are!

Totally off topic

I'm watching livestreaming video of my son's graduation ceremony at John Hopkins!
Very impressive! The master of ceremonies, talking about their research into vaccinations versus disease carrying mosquitoes, said that mosquitoes aren't stopped by walls nor by immigration policies. Later he said something about that scientists rely on data rather than what lobbyists say. Was he referring to global warming?
SO moving! All the graduates (all colours) smile as they're given their diplomas but one girl was crying! As she walked off she kissed her diploma! Wow!! I almost cried myself!

Or it could just start heading down anytime. Then it would simply be labelled a failed 5th. That's my problem with Elliott -- labelling is retroactive. :-)

Why did you label the middle part an "ugly structure"??

I wish the SPY system would go short already.

LOVE it!!

SOOO clever!!

Thank you SO much for that, Disciple33. I remember "Beat the Dealer" but had no idea that Ed Thorp started trading. I'm only 3/4 of the way through this interview but am definitely going to buy his latest book!

typical trading day

Posted by sschulman on 1st of Feb 2017 at 04:13 pm

My typical thought processes on a trading day:
"ready, aim, ready aim, ready, aim, oops good thing i didn't fire, ready, aim, ready, aim, wow wish I had fired, ready, aim, ready, aim..."
I have lots respect for you guys trade your signals in a disciplined way. :-)

Not your typical Fed announcement

FOMC Statement

Not your typical Fed announcement day. No wild swings. No huge volume surge. I guess it's all about interpretation. Maybe Yellen tried too hard to reassure.

It's gotta be Mercury retrograde or something! IB's main Account Management page isn't displaying - they say they're working on it.
It looks like CME has forgotten to update their intraday PC-SPAN margin file! And everybody who has a cat knows that's the WRONG way to hang a toilet roll.

Thanks for the heads up,

Thanks for the heads up, Matt. I love how you get enthusiastic about it. The SPY system has also had awesome trades lately!

Agee, JRoger. I don't think you can run a country like you run a business. What's he gonna do, line up all the sick poor people and say "You're fired" ?

LOL no worries! I went for a walk instead.

I use duckduckgo search engine and came up with this site.
http://canadiancouchpotato.com/2010/11/29/holding-us-dollars-in-registered-accounts/

Here's a quote from the site:
RBC Direct Investing recently became the first bank-owned brokerage to allow Canadians to hold US dollars in registered accounts, such as RRSPs and Tax-Free Savings accounts (TFSAs).

The article is dated November 2010 so maybe more brokerages are allowing this nowadays. You probably have to search around. It's a hassle but maybe worth it.

They now say, "The gunman is in custody and was a lone shooter." So sad. I wonder if public ever knows the whole story.

Holeee! I'm trying to resist

Posted by sschulman on 6th of Jan 2017 at 01:19 pm

Holeee! I'm trying to resist the urge to stand in front of a train. ie go short up here.

Jroger I almost only trade ES options. and sometimes rarely an ES future.
I sell out-of-money call and buy a further-out-of-money nearer-term call to hedge. So you could call it diagonal calendar credit spreads. Are your vertical spreads credit or debit? Years ago I did verticals but kept losing but in retrospect my strikes were way to close to where the futures were.
I'm sort of trading the spy system by selling out-of-money ES puts when spy system is long.

Thanks Matt. That fits with

Thanks Matt. That fits with the election years seasonal chart which shows a temporary dip in early december.
