If I am not mistaken, the last week in June and first trading
days in July are overwhelimingly positive for the equity markets,
at least historically...
I was a little early on my solar play STP, holding some long
from $10.
Of course, they've made quite a move from the bottom, but what
is your thinking on an entry for a long term hold on these.
Kind of looks like a "Weinstein base", but I'd hate to add now
after such a huge run. What is your sense of when you
would add on a pullback on, say, STP?
My recollection was that if silver retested 26, which it touched
in Sept, you thought it could represent a buying opportunity for a
longer term hold. Are you still holding to that, or are you
favoring more downside and then looking for an objective entry
(falling wedge breakout, or something)
So far, it looks like the usual seasonal tendencies for gold and
equities to be bullish in December is not playing out. They
are going to have to have a heck of a rally if it is to play
out.
Well, the 60 minute and daily GDX renko chart went on a buy
signal today. The 10 minute chart (at the settings in the GDX
swing system section) went on buy yesterday, but I didn't pull the
trigger. Now, with the gap (again with the freakin gaps), I
feel like I'm chasin'. Any thoughts on a decent entry
point? Maybe GDXJ is the lower risk play off of this
low...
Have any of you ever found it helpful to use the GDX Renko 5 and
10 minute charts to help birddog what will happen on the 60 minute
and daily charts and get a better entry price? I was looking at
taking a swing position in GDX, as the GDX/GLD ratio went positive
on 60 minute chart...

Do you have a hard stop in mind? Obviously, one could use the 50 day MA, but could easily get whipsawed. What stop price are you using?

For what it's worth, it's on a buy signal on the 5 and 10 minute charts, but not yet on the 15, 60, or daily charts.

Of course, with the gap this morning, buying near support didn't happen. What would be the entry on a backtest of the falling wedge breakout?
Yes, trailing stops are worthless

Yes, trailing stops are worthless in this market. I took profits in TZA too early, but in QID too late!

Boy, that was a short bear market!
Posted by mfogli1 on 21st of Oct 2011 at 01:28 pm
If we close above 1230, the bear market is dead, I presume.
Some time ago, I posted a link to a Zeal LLC note, that the recent market weakness was more consistent with a correction rather than a bear maret.
The weak consensus here was that since we closed below the 20month MA last month, that we are in for much more downside.
Anyone willing to stick his/her neck out and make a call?????
Marketguys posts have been awesome, but I really haven't seen much from Matt/Steve on the longer term view on the community posts.
Yes, I owe you one!
