filing taxes, UCO partnership

Posted by dallassteve on 3rd of Apr 2012 at 12:06 pm

I just got finished filing my taxes.

UCO and other partnerships send a Schedule K.

Gainskeeper is ok, but does not import this info.  In fact, it imports it as a normal stock sale.

I had to go back and file form 6781 and correct entries elsewhere on my return.

Very time consuming and frustrating.

I found other issues with Gainskeeper, and had to check every entry.  Mostly it gave the wrong purchase date on short term holdings.  Maybe there is a reason, but I corrected them all.

GDX: weekly pattern

Posted by dallassteve on 29th of Mar 2012 at 12:12 pm

GDX has a possible megaphone pattern on the weekly chart, and it is right at support.  If support goes, things could get exciting.  I got stopped out of my long play yesterday, and will wait and see.

Zeal re GDX

GDXJ

Yes, you are right, Matt.

I was trying to be brief,  but to be fair to the him, Hamilton was not calling a bottom.  He was mentioning that the ratio is getting extreme.  And he was even wringing his hands in bewilderment.

with precious metals, I always ask myself: how extreme is extreme?  I expect some pretty crazy action in this sector.

stop on GDXJ

GDXJ

I appreciate your post, ragwing

It is an objective trade, taking a bounce off an established support line.  And it may still work.  Many times I am frustrated by a bad stop, but some bad experiences tell me that a small frustration is better than a big loss.

I put my stop at 24.48  Let's see what happens.

Everyone on gold-eagle.com seems to be screaming that a bottom is in on gold.  Alex Hamilton of Zeal wrote that the HUI/gold ratio is at an extreme not seen since the 2008 bottom.

GDXJ

I bought some GDXJ yesterday after the close.  Seemed like a nice pullback, but today it gapped down.  I'm putting a stop right below the opening low.  Seems like if it goes lower than that, there is not much to stop it from testing the recent lows.

I like the renko system; maybe I should stick to that.  Anyone else trying to trade GDX or GDXJ today?

GDX comments

I'm thinking about going long here at the support line you are showing, if GDX fills the gap and turns back up.  Looking good this AM, but I'm watching a little longer.  Sure looks to me like GDX wants to turn back up, and I'd like to see it hit the top resistance line of that triangle.

The renko system has yet to go long, so a safer play might be to wait for that.

which way GLD?

Sri-Kumar gold target

Posted by dallassteve on 14th of Mar 2012 at 05:57 pm

Pundits are really divided on gold.  I like this chart, and have been hoping for a deeper correction.

I covered my gold short today at the close, however. (GLL, 9% gain: lock it in while it is still there)

Let's see what the next couple days bring.  I am really interested to hear member's opinions about where GLD is going, intermediate term.  (I am no longer a day trader.)

Greek default

Going Down?

Posted by dallassteve on 7th of Mar 2012 at 09:33 am

zach, interesting comments.

I have read that the third week of March is a potential date for Greece to default on its bonds.

I'm not sure about the dates, but I don't see how there can be any other outcome except default.  Will that start a domino effect?

GLL

GLD gapped down through a major support zone today (164-165).

My target is 152.  I have been holding GLL for a while, and I believe this translates to a target on GLL around 20.

hmatar, do you have a target for GLL?

all comments appreciated.

SRS

Watching SPG for clues

Posted by dallassteve on 6th of Mar 2012 at 02:14 pm

I am watching SPG, too, kalinm

I bought some SRS back on Feb 8 (after it bottomed on Feb. 3).  It just refuses to cooperate, though, with SPG going so strong.

Fortunately, I got a good entry point, and am still 3% above my stop loss, although I checked  frequently this past week to make sure I had not been stopped out.

In general, I hate holding SRS longer than a week or two, but this just looks so ripe.

Anyone still holding this one?  Nice move up, past the first target.   I'm hoping for the higher target posted around 2.50.

Thanks for this info, tornW1

I like Tulving.com and coloradogold.com.  and keep my gold where I can get at it.

This company sounds like a good alternative, and I will check it out.

GLD short

rp, thanks for the update.  I went short GLD on 1/30.  Up 0.5% at this point.  Anyone trading gold expects extremes, and it sure looks to me like we could get more of a pullback.  Your chart makes a great argument.

I have a core position in physical gold.   I only added a little on the last pullback.  If we see one more pullback, I will really load up.  Most gold analysts have been shouting buy for a month, it seems.  It has been hard to stay the course.

short GLD

nice charts of GLD, rp

I closed my SSRI long this AM and went short GLD using GLL.

I dislike DZZ because it is an ETN.

thanks for big picture, rp

I am going to sell HGSI today, just watching for a good exit point.  I am currently up 37% on this trade, even with the pullback today.  I'm happy.

Thanks BPT for a great trade!

HGSI

Great setup posted yesterday, Steve.

Hoping for more followthrough today.

rp: nice chart.  let us know if you are holding out for T2.  Looks like a thin zone to me between 11.25 and 12.50.  Be nice if that fills.

thanks all.
