Blog Fixes - we'll work on fixing these tonight

Posted by matt on 27th of Jul 2009 at 04:26 pm

OK Guys, regarding the blog we will be fixing the bugs that we all found.

    1.  we're going to add the threaded view to the (recent) links so that you know what the reply was to.

    2.  For the inbox, we're going to put a few spaces at the beginning, and a line to separate the question from the response.  Kind of like how MS Outlook works.

    3.  Also for inbox we'll make it where the unread messages are a different color so that they stand out.

    4.  Currently let's say you are in Market analysis but you post a reply and place it in Off Topic, you will not see your new post because it is in Off Topic but you are still in Market Analysis Forum.  There was some confusion today about this because members would post a message and then not see it.  We'll set it to where it takes you to the Forum that you posted the message to.

    5.  We have a bug to fix on the search By Member.  It adds a space and that needs to be deleted out.

    6.  We plan to add a view at the top where you can choose how many topics to display on the page.  Also we plan to add a Font Size display at the top.

    7. I will probably play around with formating/styles and colors still  I might try a slightly lighter shade of gray, etc.

    #2 - Done

#3 - Done, i have a feeling though that people won't like the colors. The designer should be looking at this soon and we should have something in keeping with the professionalism of the rest of the site.

    Hey James, please fix how

Regarding the Blog bugs; #4 has been fixed!   therefore now whenever you click on the (Recent) link next to the Forum Topics, you can now see the original topic the post was for, just click the title and it will take you to the thread.  On the old blog there was a toggle, but now just click on the title.

#2 and #3.  The Private Inboxes will be fixed tonight

    #5- search function is fixed

#7- We will also have a look at one shade lighter gray for the back ground which will help with contrast and for you older folk

Fixed, you should no longer be getting spaces before members names while using the autocomplete forms.

If you are on the recent view, clicking the title of any post will take you to that post's parent page and scroll down to the relevant comment. This should make everything MUCH more intuitive. Just remember, when in doubt click the title.

I can make these default to opening in a new tab if you guys think that's the best way to do it, or you can just hold down ctrl or use your middle mouse button to force the link to open in a new tab.

Something else to look at:  My inbox indicator continues to show how many new messages I have even though I've already opened them.

Matt:  When considering a font color please realize that some of us older readers experience eye strain when reading light gray fonts.  We need the sharp contrast of black on white.

My old eyes would like to see a larger font for the time signatures on the messages and the posters. Thanks.

Hit Ctrl+ or Ctrl- in IE

    yep

hold ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel or pick a number 1 - 9, 0 and ctrl will reset your font to default.

Pretty sure this works with all modern browsers.
