I'll be hopping around at first to see what works. My sister and
her husband teach at an academy in Bangkok...but that city is not
my cup of tea for longer term. Bali and Vietnam are top choices
going in. I lived in Singapore for 6 years but most of the
countries in that region have made it more challenging to settle in
for longer than a few months at a time. Still very feasible
in Bali (Indo) and Vietnam. Short flights to BKK.

Lol. That's so true! I had to get used to wearing socks again...and shoes (Hawaii for 12 years, then Singapore for 6).
