UPS drivers now making an average of 170K per year. Why go
to college these days? I guess so you can impress your
friends with your breadth of knowledge at dinner parties? Or
you could go to a trade school and get a personal tutor for
whatever subject you want with all your excess cash.
My best friend is a pilot with American Airlines. We were
talking about the future of the industry with automation, etc. I
was shocked to find out that they have eliminated the college
degree requirement for commercial airline pilots.

Because with the right degree you can make more :-)?
Also, automation will be the death of those jobs.
Self-driving cars with Optimus carrying the boxes.
Higher paid jobs with simple repeatable tasks are just ripe
for cheaper solutions.

And the unions will keep them from automating the job
away....it's already written into the CBA's. That's good in
some ways (I know a lot of pilots and wouldn't want them to lose
their jobs). But, at the end of the day, almost all airline
accidents are the result of human error....and the technology is
already in a place where planes can easily fly
themselves.
I am a retired airline pilot. I flew the first generation of a
plane that can fly itself. A350. We are a long way from pilotless
passenger airplane. Boxes maybe in a few year but the connectivity
issues alone are a long way from being good enough to put
passengers on a plane without a pilot.
