Can someone explain to me the discrepancy between price of gold
futures (/gc = $1975) and the spot price in
kitco($1941) ? I assume it the contract rollover but I
don't recall seeing this discrepancy before for multiple days. Not
quite sure which one we go by. :-)
The spot price of a commodity is the current cash cost of it for
immediate purchase and delivery. The futures price locks in the
cost of the commodity that will be delivered at some point other
than the present—usually, some months hence.
Some traders follow Spot Price of Gold while others Follow GC
(chart out whatever you prefer)

Two people I happen to read seemed confused by the sudden pop in
the gold price chart with the rollover to December contracts. Like
they never saw that before. It surprised me. Anyways.
Now I know. Thanks.
I see MGC Dec trading about 20 dollars higher than October, and
Dec is trading almost 40 over Aug - however one shouldn't be
trading Aug gold futures now, they have or are very soon rolling
over, everyone is trading the October contract so that's really the
current contract, which is only 20 off. Also the Dec trading 20
higher than Oct is normal - generally the futures months trade
higher, or traders are betting that it will be higher. I don't see
anything out of norm here
Can someone explain to me
