however one thing you can do is have an intra day chart of VVIX
- here's one I use has VVIX and SPX on a 10 min - you can see where
VVIX broke a trendline about 45 min before the close - could have
got you in there vs waiting for the daily to spike up

Oh, yeah, that is a nice look!
I had already gone short SPY and QQQ earlier today based on some
other things, which I am holding overnight. I came into today short
IWM but closed those positions for a profit. Could have held them
but I get skittish when there is money on the table. (SPY and QQQ
hadn't really corrected yet)
