does anyone trade seasonal futures like livestock or grains?
I was reading historically pork bought in AUG and sold in
late NOV has an avg return of 30%. They also seem to spike
annually around April. I wish i could afford palladium
contracts lol. I'm glad i opened a futures account but like
options you either need a tight stop or a strong stomach and good
risk management! On a side note the Ten year note futures was a
great short play yesterday TN_F. I didn't catch it but it was
a big move!
I tired once years ago. I was over my head when I started
to trade Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, Live cattle and Hogs. The
moves are tremendous and I learned Live Hogs is thinly traded and I
got wiped out in 10 trades. -$50K in one week. That was
my experience. I was not prepared for the huge price swings
and volatility. It is a very fast game and expensive
education.

I have never had even one profitable trade in livestock futures.
Grains typically make a turn in spring or fall (a.k.a. planting or
harvest). We are a little early for that.
Just looking at the charts the markets seem skeptical of the
China trade deal. - NOT meant as a political commentary.

Yeah I'm not trading more than one or two contracts and more
than two futures at a time. I've traded a lot of thinly
traded options and its not ideal but you just need to be extra
patient to get the orders filled or prepare to push a market order
through if necessary. How long did you usually
hold?

And that is from a butcher; the rest of us don't have a chance with livestock!

I do not remember. I just trade SPY option, SPY ETF, ES futures and some stocks. I try to keep it simple.
