As I understand it people were coding it on their own, and
offering it up for sale. That was what they went after. They don't
want to charge the money from Bloomberg, and in fact it used to be
free on BBG about 10 years ago. But one time there was some bug and
they said for everyone to ask the BBG help desk about it and the
help desk was flooded with 30,000 requests at the same time. So BBG
said they needed to charge for it. Regardless, its very good
stuff.
