odd price action on EURO after market.

Euro has been catching a bid after the US market closed....    very strange... as if the market thinks something is going to happen over the weekend

    Euro "catching a bid"?

Zach06 - or anyone - what does that term mean? Does it mean that the trades are happening at the bid rather than at the ask? If so, wouldn't that be bearish for the Euro?

hey Susan, Good question.  If something

    hey Susan,

Good question.  If something is "catching a bid" then it is seeing positive price action i.e. a stock catching a bid is moving higher etc. Just for fun you can Google the phrase "catching a bid" (with the "") and you should likely get a group of various articles written about stock moving higher that reference the phrase.

Since you brought up the question regarding if it meant trades are happening at the bid, if you saw a stock (let's saw MSFT) trading and all the trades were crossing at the bid price you would might say something more like "they are hitting the bid on MSFT".  On the flip side you might say "they are taking the offer".  Bids are hit, offers (asks) are taken.

    Thanks Tom

    Thanks Tom.
So "catching a bid" means the opposite of "hitting the bid". Funny how every activity has its own language. :-)
