PEIX

I hesitate to mention a sub-$1 stock, but does anyone on the blog follow this one? It certainly has fallen a long way from its glory days, but there is a lot of insider buying lately and the chart looks interesting. Any insights?

    PEIX and oil substitutes

Posted by keithbob on 11th of Nov 2011 at 03:05 pm

I have been watching it and got a piece of the run up from 30 to 70 cents but I took profits on Nov 1st and haven't touched it since. Still watching it though.

I'm also watching another ethanol, BFRE, which is a 25cent stock with very light volume.  I made some money on that one in the recent run up from 20 to 30cents.

I also own some SYNM at $1.00

At the same time I'm very cautious right now as the oil market is near the end of a long upswing and these little guys only pop at the very end of that cycle.  So I have a hand on the eject button at all times.

    Very helpful perspective. Thanks keithbob.

Very helpful perspective. Thanks keithbob. I picked up some PEIX, but as Matt says, I won't marry it.

PEIX --never heard of the stock- but I see on a 5 year chart the high was 136+ area?!

not sure what the story is there- but form 136  down to .30 gets my attention - just maybe not my  money.   One good thing is looks like the trading volume is OK- not so thin that if you buy 10K shares you'll move the price against yourself !

If memory serves PEIX was one of the darlings of the ethanol craze.  Yes hamvestor I am reading your post now that I am writing.  Gates did take a big position at the time and this is back when oil was gang busters (2006ish) and we were going to take corn here in the US and never need foreign oil again.  There were other names, ANDE, ADM etc. but those companies didn't totally rely on ethanol alone but still made a nice rise during the same time but PEIX was the true ethanol play.

    PEIX was a high-flyer back

PEIX was a high-flyer back in the days when ethanol was considered to be the next great thing as an oil alternative. If I remember correctly Bill Gates took a big position in it, but my memory is hazy on that one. Maybe someone else can recall more accurately.
