Given that the cup and handle for IVAN took months to build, how long can one typically expect to hold the breakout profitably? I would think this trade is not a "hold a couple days and then sell it" type of pattern. Any information about this would be most appreciated!

Did you sell your GDX puts or are you holding?

Steve (or others), on cup/handle formations like HPQ, do you ever buy early in the handle or is it usually better to wait for breakout?

I guess the answer is just to short then, eh? But then you couldn't really be in mutual funds, which is I suppose where most people are. not me....

the 3:15 - 3:30 volume bar on a 15 minute chart is 10x the last two days' 15 minute bars.

over 10.90 on strong volume.

Over 28.30 I guess? Or on another pullback before then. Too bad we missed by one day the bullflag that had set up and then played out today. Not to worry tho.
