WHR - good time to get in?

Posted by frtaylor on 2nd of Nov 2010 at 11:52 am

Just noticing that WHR is recovering from yesterday's lows - currently 76.28. The low since late September occurred yesterday at 74.42, having dropped after earnings were announced on Oct 27. Matt, you think it's still a good long-term buy?

Classic.

Classic.

Okay, after some further trial and error, I figured out the correct settings, so all set now.

Sounds good! I get so

SPX system, please....

Sounds good! I get so confused when the market does things like today's action. We had a new high but then fell hard, shooting past Matt's posted fib stops and right on through the lower trendline. I had no idea at that point what to expect. Just shows my inexperience, but man I can't afford to lose a ton of cash getting experienced! Aka getting a whipping....

you can make a contingent

SBCF

Posted by frtaylor on 1st of Nov 2010 at 09:28 pm

you can make a contingent order on the stock itself. So, IF SBCF drops below 1.20, THEN sell x shares of SBCF at market price. The market maker never sees the order until it actually triggers, which is also a good thing!

need help setting slow sto on Trader Workstation

Posted by frtaylor on 1st of Nov 2010 at 09:12 pm

If anyone knows how to set up the stochastics feature on Trader Workstation to match Matt and Steve's settings for slow stochastics, please give me a hand - I would really appreciate it. The stochastics function on Trader Workstation doesn't indicate whether is slow or fast stochastics. It has these parameters: 1) Method (SMA, EMA, or WMA), 2) observation period, 3) period of slow average (%D, right?) , and 4) period of fast average (%K, right?).

Or perhaps it is not possible? Since the slo sto on Stockcharts.com doesn't have the parameter "observation period," but only %K and %D. ?

I'm now using contingent orders

SBCF

Posted by frtaylor on 1st of Nov 2010 at 08:51 pm

I'm now using contingent orders instead of stop loss orders, after that happened to me too today, on the same stock. The problem is that, even if for only a millisecond, the bid drops below your stop loss, you are triggered. Even if the price doesn't ever go below your stop loss.

SPX system, please....

Okay after a day like today, I am REALLY ready for the new SPX/SPY system!

Well, seemed like a good entry so I bought some @ 5.55.

Sounds like MCP would be a good short!

UNG - good entry point?

Posted by frtaylor on 1st of Nov 2010 at 01:21 pm

UNG has retraced just past the 50% Fib from the move encompassing Thursday's low and Friday's high. Good time to enter the trade? Matt, any opinion?

Matt, my Fidelity chart shows

NGLS over 30

Posted by frtaylor on 1st of Nov 2010 at 10:05 am

Matt, my Fidelity chart shows an Oct 13 high of 30.52, not 29.97! If correct, this would not be a b/o over 30, right?

Thanks! Especially for the targets.

Thanks! Especially for the targets. I did indeed sell half and am holding the other half. It's a pretty small position really - I'm still using training wheels! Trying to learn to train w/out losing a lot of jing. Anyway, I'll look at the chart and hopefully see what you're seeing as far as why those targets.

Lots of good advice and

IVAN - hold time?

Lots of good advice and information, thank you. I did actually take yours/Steve's advice and peeled off half w/ a stop at 2.49 for the remainder.

sounds like for next week you want to avoid losses and be ready for a move in either direction w/ cash at the ready. Me, I am playing a few positions but have a fair amount in GDX trade. I'm also playing the election trade, w/ odds in favor of a short term move ending Friday next. I'm looking to the GDX system (and S&P system when it comes out) to work quite a bit better than my fairly green efforts on my own.
