Does anyone here use Wavelength (https://wavelength.app) or
Slack? I am thinking about setting up a channel for us to
chat real time. It would be a completely optional thing for
us all to riff raff over mobile. It wouldn't be anything
official but a way to build community. If it's just a
distraction I won't do that.

I think that's what I am looking at in your diagram (attached).
The last time I see it closing outside is roughly June 6.
Sorry if I am being dense about this; trying to be a good
student here.

Matt can you please help educate me on this? Why would GS
trigger long? I don't see the GS Volatility Index having
closing outside of the top bollinger band in the image you
shared. Isn't a close outside the band required before a
potential long/short?
Posted by patellee on 12th of Jun 2023 at 02:32 pm
Yup. I am still holding the SPY long.
On your beta systems, I like putting skin in the game. It
forces me to pay attention to the posts and learn how it works
rather than just take this all for granted.

I am still short DIA (given the 8MA hasn't been breached).
Looking at VXD, it looks like it may close outside the lower
bollinger band. If it closes out that band, is it accurate to
say it would go short again once it closes inside that band?

This article is 12 years old but still holds true. PALL is
usually a canary in the coal mine. It's recently diverged
from QQQ. Could be an indicator that tech is topping.
I examined the attached chart as well and it wasn't popping
there either. It looks like it may be on the MA but not sure.
Here is the chart I was staring at. I like to study
what Matt/Steve tell us so I can be a good student.
I've studied the recent posts on the board searching for "
vix systems" as my search term to educate myself.
For the VIX instruments posted
here,
I've used the following Bollinger Band settings: Length: 22, Long
Dev: 2.8, Short Dev -2.2. For the parent company / index, I
am measuring the 9 SMA. I also acknowledge the deviation on
the close times and the need to use 1440 minute charts as a
result.
The basic rule seems to be to short when the respective
volatility index closes back within the lower band OR buy when it
closes back inside the top band and you close the trade when the
parent instrument closes below or above the 9EMA.
I am looking at the long trigger on GOOGL on 5/31 and it's
always been inside its upper bollinger band. Why did this
trigger long then?
I must have missed something and look forward to your help on
what I am missing. Thanks!
Steve, you read my mind. I was getting ready to ask the
community what their view is on Crude and you provided the perfect
segway. I saw this news early and think this news will give
us an opportunity to short Crude. The news out of China isn't
great and I think you are going to see demand lessen from there and
given the overall macro conditions I can't imagine demand is going
up rest of world. I think you will a news driven spike here
but another wave down to about the mid 50s.

If I am tracking correctly, this means we can potentially short the SPY once the VIX closes back inside the lower BB. Correct?
I went with the 0.64
