There are a slew of recent Windows and Java updates and patches
release this week. If you experience any anomolies in your
machines, shut down all the apps and pull the new updates, get them
loaded and restart (probably several times - &^%#!!!)
I am having trouble with last night's Intra Week Update, no
charts, no audio, just two paragraphs on resistance levels that
appear to be from last week.
I am running it on 2 separate HP laptops with at least 2Gb ram
and VISTA, lots of charts, a few L1 screens, and Alert
Manager with 8 running strategies with no noticeable issues.
TBT & TLT have been chopping or gapping up and
down in a sideways channel since Hitting Matt's targets and
breaking their trendlines about Feb 9th or 10th.
Does anyone argue for a setup here for a break in
these two? IMHO a long in TBT is a play if there is a
pullback to the $44 support level or a solid breakout over
resistance at $47.60
Has anyone done any work with the MECHANICAL TRADING SYSTEMS
with ASYMETRIC LONGSIDE vs. SHORTSIDE entry & exit
strategies?
I play with TD Ameritrade Strategy Desk which requires
two separate strategies to execute Matt's systems as we
discuss them here, and notice in back testing, that on the
6min 29_89 EMA SKF system the short side trades are a BIG
LOSER. The question is for an asymetric short side system to
complement the VERY successful long side trades.
Matt, Can you please comment on how this SPX 10min IH&S
pattern played out?
Was today's low and subsequent ping of 780 confirmation of
the pattern, ...or was it negated by the pullback to our 765
close? ...or is the late pullback the actual RS?
What a Country! Today we have a new President, a new
government, an orderly transition of power while the markets stay
open and our way of life remains intact. We had no big crash
today, no big disaster, no riots in the streets, no burning
buldings, no shots fired. The day is not over, and we
must remain vigilant, but at the end of the day, that we can trust
in, and have hope in a better tomorrow is simply
amazing.
I have been playing with WealthLab Pro for about 6
months to backtest and provide intraday alerts from the
Strategy Monitor screen. It is especially usefully to
backtest a slew of stocks at once or over various time
periods.
I have most of the mechanical systems with EOD exits setup and
working well. Send a PM if you need the basics, and if anyone
has figured out how to code confirming candles please help me with
that.
I am looking for a new re-entry point on TBT (DXO too) after
stopping myself out last Wednesday. I read that Matt and RP
are long on TBT and wonder if I should pile in or wait for the
market pull back that has been cautioned since last Tuesday
night's newsletter.

Title: 12 Year Lows??? Here is
Posted by straws on 4th of Mar 2009 at 04:05 pm
Here is somthing different:
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2009/03/twelve-year-lows/
Twelve Year Lows Are Extremely Rare
Chart via JPMorgan
>
Thomas Lee, US Equity Strategy at JPMorgan writes: “Believe or not, retracing 12-year lows for the Dow is an incredibly rare event. Besides the retest of 1997 lows seen on Monday, this has only happened two other times, on April 8, 1932, and December 6, 1974.”
Given the rarity of the event, it is worth taking a closer look at the past instances: The 12 year low in 1932 was ~three months before the end of the bear market. In 1974, it was exactly the low for that bear market.
Dan Greenhaus of Miller Tabak adds, in both cases, “the economy continued contracting beyond the bear market bottoms; this is typical of rrecessions. Unemployment continued rising and GDP remained weak. The 1974 Bear market ended in December, but GDP contracted even in the Q1 1975 at a 4.7% clip — the worst GDP Q of that entire recession. Despite this, the Dow managed to rally 24.65%.”
Hitting a twelve year low is by no means is proof the bear market is over. And, two prior examples does not a sufficient sample make. Financial and housing sectors remain in a state of paralysis, and while substantial levels of stimulus are coming, eveer larger deficits are coming too.
Regardless, the oversold nature of the market, as well as the virtual straight down drop that brought us here, does present a real possibility of a strong market rally.
