Mechanical systems - No AIG shorts

Anyone running AIG automated systems may want to check to make sure your TS and IB are in synch before EOD.  I've missed AIG shorts 3 times today...which stinks.  Messes up the systems........and they didn't need any help being messed up today!

Thanks Peter. That's a very

SSO and SPY Systems

Posted by deberah on 9th of May 2010 at 01:48 am

Thanks Peter. That's a very helpful explanation. However, I think for me the most important point of all of this is that while the information is "nice" it's not at the moment all that useful.  In order for an automated mechanical system to be usable and tradeable, it has to be "automated".  Receiving signals occassionally here and there, makes it invalid for those of us who are "aware" of it but have no actual access to it.

I am certain that you would not personally put your money in such a semi available "sort of" system where you only had access to late signals on an irregular basis.  And for me........honestly, the teasers are annoying.

Good point Bboylan.  As Michael Marcus says, we should all trade our own style..........so I totally respect your comments. However, as a mechanical systems trader personally.......I love the automated systems.  And last week, even on the big drop, my systems had me doing happy dances!  The biggest profit I've had in the history of my personal trading.

The problem with the SSO systems that you mention is that they're hit or miss on the signals.....we only have an awareness of them late......sometimes very late..........only, if and when Matt has the time to share them.  They're not in the moment.  They're not truly automated.  So, in my humble opinion, they're not real and information about them is no better or worse than the chatter of the birds outside my window.  They're not automated, mechanical systems. And given that situation, I would never personally trade them.

They have the "potential" to be great...........but that's all it is for these particular systems. Unrealized potential.

My point of this whole post though is for new traders.  Systems trading isn't for everyone.  Some people are amazingly great technical analysts. I am not yet one of them.  For me, systems are unemotional and a great way to make a good income.

As Marcus says, we all have our own style. And trying to adopt another's style is a great way to accumulate losses.  Mechanical, automated systems aren't for everyone, but the right ones (that I control) are right for me.

Some Trades between 14:40 and 15:00 cancelled

Posted by deberah on 6th of May 2010 at 07:47 pm
Pursuant to rule 11890(b), NASDAQ, on its own motion, will cancel all trades executed between 14:40:00 and 15:00:00 greater than or less than 60% away from the consolidated last print in that security at 14:40:00 or immediately prior. This decision cannot be appealed. NASDAQ has coordinated this decision with all other UTP Exchanges. NASDAQ will be canceling trades on the participant’s behalf.

Yesterday was my worst trading day in 10 months.  Today we're doing happy dances at our house. Thank Goddess I didn't give into the fear and leave my systems off today.  Good lesson.

I've noticed that it tends to do this.  I was trading it several months ago and some days it seemed to fall off a cliff.  I quit trading it.

Yeah, it re-adjusted in the last 1/2 hour. Didn't see anything in the news about a 3-1 split, but that must be it.  Thanks.

FAS down $66

Is my data wrong?  Is FAS really down $66 pre-market.  If so, I'm turning my FAS systems off......and maybe all of them for today

Hey Matt, Thanks for letting us

Stockhcharts.com is down

Hey Matt,

Thanks for letting us know.  I'm constantly amazed you get it out as early as you do......in the midst of trading all day personally........, improving the website........... adding services like the new indicators .......and the  SMS alerts.........and the soon to be released systems.  I coudn't imagine doing all that myself and then adding the great technical anlaysis on top.  Too bad we can' t get stockcharts to cooperate!  Look forward to it when we see it.

Thanks! D

Automated Futures Trading

Posted by deberah on 30th of Apr 2010 at 11:04 am

Does anyone do automated systems trading on Futures on either TradeStation or MultiCharts?........or another platform?

Matt, any idea why some of us can't get past the verification code?  I can get texts from elsewhere, but repeated attempt to get the verification have failed.  Not sure how to resolve.

continuous contracts

Does anyone know if it's possible to create continuous contract futures charts in TS. And, if it is, how do you do it?  I'd call TS, but they're closed.  TIA Deberah

Is anyone else having trouble getting the SMS code to enter?  I can get texts from others....but can't seem to get them here........after about 8 tries. Anyone else having this problem?
