I've traded the TBT a few times and I've found it good for swing
trades. But for long term holds, I have to wonder how the
"ultra" aspect of it factors into long term performance. It
must have some decay, does it not? My other consideration was
to just short the TLT outright. Unless you know of a
ultralong US treasury ETF I can short...
direxion has a 3X pair on 10yr treasuries tyo/tyd, they also
have a pair based on 30yr treasuries. I have played these and
they are not as liquid as tbt, and sometimes don't follow the
treasury yields as closely as you think they should, but they will
definitely provide a bigger move for short term trades...

Good idea on TLT...if it can be found to short.
Shorting sometime with natural time decay sounds like a great idea.
