Mechanical Trading Systems

    Hello Trading Community,

I am a Canadian investor and I am impressed with the gains on the mechanical trading systems. I would like to set up a fully automated trading system.

    What do I do?

I contacted Trade Station I can get a subscription of their software but they don’t provide brokerage services in Canada.

Do any of the Canadian brokerage houses allow you to trade with TS?

How do you get the programming done? How much does it cost?

    Thanks,

    Steven

I live in BC and use Ninja and IB.  And I have run EOD strategies and swing strategies with little or no problem.  There is a learing curve writing your own strategies, but basic programming skills will overcome.  And the Ninja support forum is second to none.

You need a minimum balance of $25,000 US to be a day trader on IB.

If you insist on using TS, you can interface TS through Ninja via standard API to your broker.  You  have to buy Ninja and lease TS monthly.

Ninja is making a major upgrade after the new year that promises to be very robust.  Check out the NT support forum for detail (NT 7).

    Ninja Trader with IB is

Ninja Trader with IB is also an option.  I believe a few of the Canadians here use that combo.

You can buy a life time license for Ninja for about $1000 US or there are monthy options if you don't want to purchase it.

You can hire a third party programmer that advertizes on the Ninja site to write the program.  Depending on how detailed you want the program, it will cost you about 1 to 2 hours of time @ about $75 US per hour.

As long as you request all the right parameters, one program will be able to run many different strategies.

    Hope that helps.

I don't use Ninja Trader but I believe they can route orders through IB.You'll have to buy their software though.

Can't confirm this since I do not use these services, but from what I've gleaned on past discussions you can set up the strategies in Tradestation and use Tradebullet (a sub. based service of Tradestation) to fire the signals in Interactive Brokers. IB has a Canadian branch but you'll have to investigate if TradeBullet will work with this. Tradestation has also had problems with availability of shares for shorting integral to many of the systems, so I know that some members use this particular setup as IB usually has shares for shorting. Hope that helps.

    What search results are you

What search results are you inferring to?

I have also been trying to find a Canadian based programmable or automated software system to no avail. The best I could find are the many clunky versions of Active Trader supplied by TD Waterhouse and a few others.

    Frustrating!
