regarding the AAPL Vision Pro - and you know I'm a big techy
(heck we wouldn't have all these systems and technology here at
Breakpoint if I wasn't), I have used VR headsets for years, I
have the Meta Quest 3. Clearly the AAPL with regards to the crazy
sharp resolution, eye tracking, and processing power is amazing.
That said - again big problems are the weight - it's crazy to me
that AAPL's headset is 120 grams heavier than the Metal 3, even
with it's battery taken out of the headset itself and worn on the
hip. The Meta 3 has the battery in the headset, imagine how light
the Meta 3 would be if they also removed the battery from the
headset - maybe 250 grams lighter or 1/2 pound. AAPL loves to
insist on premium materials aluminum, metal, glass, but really
until the tech gets smaller, you gotta keep it as light as possible
and if you use plastic instead to keep it light, that's fine
The other thing about VR that I've noticed over the years, I'm
not sure what the term you would use for this but when you first
try it, it's just amazing. The Meta 3 was a huge jump from the
Quest 2 with the AR and ability to place giant screens around the
room - the other day I had 3 youtube videos up like 80 inch
TV's surrounding me LOL. And some of the games from AR where
it maps your room and you have aliens coming out of the walls and
around the corner is really cool
but...here's the thing, on every VR and AR headset I've used -
like I said above, when you first use it it's crazy amazing, but
for some reason it wears off VERY quickly, within a week or two.
That's been the case for every headset for me basically. It's like
at first this is the most amazing thing I've every seen, I have to
show my friends - then 2 weeks later you are are like meh....
It's crazy how quickly the honeymoon phase drops. You
have this thing with other tech too such as new phones and tablets,
but it's more of a slow degrade, it doesn't fall off a cliff in a 2
weeks. Maybe part of this is that it's affecting your brain
and eyes in weird ways you are not aware of - even if you don't get
motion sickness it maybe causing some sort of uneasiness in your
brain that you are not aware of and that translates to your
subconscious causing you to lose interest or not want to put it
back on.
In that Verge article we see the same effect I just described,
people are blown away by it first, then after a couple weeks they
are ready to return it
anyway figured I'd share my thoughts/experience - and no I have
not tried an AAPL Vision Pro - unless one of you wealthy generous
guys want to buy me one as a gift
and as far as VR headsets that are not fatiguing to wear - this
one has the right idea, weights only 204 grams vs 650 grams for
AAPL vision pro, and Meta Quest 3 weights 515 grams
