MacRumors saysthat the logo's depiction of a
constellation-filled night sky indicates that the iPhone 14's
long-rumored satellite connectivity capability may be unveiled at
the Cupertino event.
Following T-Mobile's introduction of satellite connectivity,
Tim Farrar, a satellite communications expert,
said in a series of tweets that it was intended to anticipate
Apple's release of its own satellite connectivity feature for the
iPhone in collaboration with
Globalstar, Inc.(NYSE:
GSAT).
Globalstar announced in February that it had purchased 17 new
satellites in order to offer "continuous satellite services" to a
"potential customer," which could be Apple.
As it builds anticipation for the event, Apple, in typical
manner, was light on details about what would be unveiled, and who
its new partners will be.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
the only real player in town with that is Musk Starlink - the
others too small in prototype stage and don't have an in space
network yet and will take years to build them.
Starlink just announced a partnership with T-mobile, Starlink, I
kind of doubt AAPL would be announcing anything with Starlink
yet.
Otherwise Starlink has to start v2 launches though to scale
cellular because they need a giant antenna so even they are just at
the planning stages, but their existing network will let them
manage data transfers to ground stations and between other
satellites
a couple years ago I posted a big writeup on Starlink and it's
long term potential saying that it could eventually become the
largest telecom company in the word if they can expand to their
goals. here's a link to that post

the issue there is that they only 48 satellite's and 24 satellite's in LEO and they are low bandwidth, maybe text initially only
Starlink for comparison has over 3000 satellite's - and they permission to do up to 12,000 and they put up over 100 a month
