I've been on TD/Amer, Scottrade, Fidelity and IB. IB is
the best hands down. Over the past 10 years there have been 2
meaningful outages during trading hours, one of them was within the
last 2 months and lasted almost all day - that was brutal but i've
heard and seen horror stories from my friends on other systems much
worse and more frequent. The IB mobile app is best i've ever
seen/used and is continuously updated. Market
reseach/scanners/etc. are top notch. Trade execution leaves
other brokerages drooling, i mean you want to see the bid and ask
and see your own order on the market right - IB is awesome.
Fees are decent, it's $1 a trade on equities vs. free but if
you trade options they are the best.

I agree but the desktop trading platform TWS has a somewhat
complex learning curve. I have a relatively small account I keep at
TD Ameritrade so I have access to the TOS platform but I execute
the trades at IB. IB margin rates are the lowest in the
industry by FAR. Customer service is really poor, almost
impossible to get through to a human, online ticket response time
can be over a week. If you have a sizable account and trade
frequently you should really consider IB.
