volume weighted average price - it's commonly used by market
makers etc.
or when a large instiution places a buy or sell order say
millions of shares - they can't do a market order, typically they
have a 3rd party fill that order over time in segments. Many of
those places guarantee VWAP price on the large order ticket fill -
so that's why folks like to monitor where it is.
