the options trade until 15 min after the close for the ETF's and
indexes until 4:15, they do NOT stop trading at 4:00 when the cash
market closes, so you have 17 - 15 min to enter the
trades

past 4:00. I've been grousing and guessing trying to get a
trade before 4:00 with just 2 minutes to go. Who knew ?
yeah before about a year ago I didn't know either, I always just
assumed all options stopped at 4 pm EST as well. It appears to be
that way for stock options but for SPY and SPX Index options only
they trade for the extra 15 min. Definitely helps and is sort of a
must with the SPY systems trades that we have to wait until almost
the close to send out.
