Tesla Motors
gave a sneak preview this Thursday of its Model 3 sedan, saying
more than 130,000 people had ordered the car, even though it is
more than a year away from production.
Tesla Chief
Executive Elon Musk unveiled a prototype of the Model 3 in
Hawthorne, Calif., outside Los Angeles to hundreds of Tesla owners
and the media, saying the vehicle will go into production in 2017
at a rumored starting price of $35,000 US.
The Model 3
is critical to the Silicon Valley automaker's growth plans and to
sustaining its lofty stock price. Tesla shares have jumped in
recent days in anticipation of the Model 3 launch.
"It's very
important to accelerate the transition to sustainable transport,"
said Musk. "This is really important for the future of the
world."
Musk guided
the audience through the journey from the company's previous
models, the Roadster, S and X, to the current one.
"With any
new technology, it takes multiple iterations and economies of scale
before you can make it affordable," said Musk, the South-African
born CEO who spent two years at Queen's University in Kingston,
Ont.
"Do you want
to see the car?" teased Musk, to screams from the audience in the
hangar-sized facility inside a Tesla design center. "We don't have
it for you tonight — just kidding!"
Three Model
3s were driven onstage, which looked like a shorter version of
Tesla's Model S sedan. The Model 3 has a panoramic glass roof and
an elongated hood. Inside, it seats five adults and has the same
large touchscreen dashboard as other Teslas. It also has Tesla's
suite of semi-autonomous driving features, including automatic lane
changing and lane keeping. Musk said it will accelerate from zero
to 60 in less than six seconds.
Musk says it
might go at least 345 kilometres on an electric charge.
Musk said
that 115,000 pre-orders had already been taken on Thursday alone
for the car. Within a half hour, that number reached 137,600 in a
rolling scroll projected onto a screen. Tesla Lower
Priced Car
Musk said
the car is on schedule to go on sale at the end of 2017, eliciting
a cheer from the crowd of around 800 people. Tesla has a history of
missing deadlines for its vehicles to hit the market.
To support
sales, Musk says Tesla plans to double the number of stores it has
worldwide to 441 by the end of next year. It also plans to double
its fast-charging stations to 7,200.
Fans had
camped out overnight, queueing outside Tesla stores across
California to put down deposits on the car in scenes reminiscent of
the launch of Apple Inc products.
Equally
naive Canadians across the country put down a refundable deposit of
$1,000.
Tesla's
website said Ontario and Quebec owners can get up to $1,000 rebate
on the wall connector and installation. Ontario buyers are eligible
for a $3,000 rebate and carpool lane access, while Quebec buyers
are eligible for between $6,000 to $8,000 in rebates depending if
they're buying or leasing.
The Model 3
is crucial for Tesla to reach its goal of selling 500,000 cars per
year by 2020. The success of Tesla's Gigafactory, its battery
factory near completion in Nevada, is also contingent on the Model
3.
Tesla says
scale from the massive facility will cut the cost of its battery
pack by 30 per cent to enable the lower-priced vehicle. Tesla Lower Priced Car
High
expectations ahead of the unveiling have restored Tesla's shares to
around the $230-mark, recovering from a year low of $141.05 in
February after analysts cut price targets and revenue
expectations.
It is
important to the industry because it will signal whether or not
Tesla Motors is a major threat to the status quo or just another
wannabe car company with a fleeting chance for long-term
success.
GM is on
track to beat Tesla to the market with its Chevrolet Bolt electric
car, which GM says will launch late this year, offering about 200
miles of electric driving range and a starting price of around
$35,000.
A new
generation of Nissan Motor Co's Leaf electric car is also expected
to offer more driving range at a similar price. Tesla 3
The Model 3
and others in the new generation of electric vehicles face
challenges from low gasoline prices, high battery costs and
uncertain investment in recharging infrastructure.
Through the
first two months of this year, sales of all-electric and hybrid
vehicles are down nearly nine per cent to 60,384 vehicles, data
from trade group the Electric Drive Transportation Association
shows.
That's fewer
hybrid and battery electric vehicles sold in two months than Ford
sold of its F-series large pickup trucks in February alone.
Several
short-term concerns, such as that Model 3 production will be
delayed, and the slow ramp of the Model X will continue, go
hand-in-hand with skeptics' longer-term worries that the
unprofitable company will continue to bleed cash.

TSLA system in the search box on the left and you can see some
examples I posted last year, as I said I don't have this on the
website, it was just something I created at the time and showed an
example
actually ha ha I do have a system I created for predicting major
league baseball games, man it's been 10 years since I posted that,
I'll have to dig it up, was based on doing TA on the teams by
converting their win losses into a line chart with indicators like
MACD etc, you would see patterns develop like symmetry triangles,
bull flags, positive or negative divergence, so for example if you
saw a team's win/loss ratio breaking out of a triangle, odds were
that team would go on a wining streak. The reason why
baseball worked well was because there's so many damn games, thus
you had enough data points to plot, unlike football
Despite
being chronically late to deliver his cars, Musk has attracted a
fanatical base of owners: mainly rich, green-minded clients who
wish to make a statement, whether politically, aesthetically, or
both. It’s a decidedly limited group. Last year, Tesla sold about
51,000 cars. Musk hopes to deliver another 93,000 vehicles this
year, which, while an impressive jump, isn’t quite there if you’re
thinking like a big carmaker: It would equal a mere 4% of the
approximately 1.9 million cars sold in 2015 by both BMW and
Mercedes, elegant brands that Musk regards as his true competition.
It is not an industry, and Musk knows it

...is more about cache and image than someone caring about the
environment or even saving on gas. So are most electrics, in fact.
Toyota tried to sell the same Prius without the Prius logo
prominently displayed and it was a dud. These are badges that the
upper class, the only ones who can afford them, can drive to
display their concern. Real or faux.

Likely some will get their cars later than the originally
projected date, but I don't think many will be asking for their
deposit back. $35,000 is more than I've spent on a car (I tend to
buy used and make them last), but it's no longer just for the super
rich.
well yes on TSLA the delivery is the big question, I mean even
if you placed the order last week on Thur when they released it, I
think the earliest for those folks is summer 2017, keep in mind
that TSLA expected about 150K max orders and ended up getting 300K,
so how long will it take if you ordered now? early 2018? it's
a cool car, but that's a long time for me to wait, by then I might
want something else who knows.

Tesla3: 135,000 dummies give Elon a free gift, with absolutely no promise of delivery date.

speaking of TSLA I actually created a system on it about a year ago, it went short 3 days ago for a reversion to mean pullback
I don't send out trades for it, heck I forgot about it, just pulled it up the other day to see how it was doing, saw that it held up well

Could you post a chart link to the system? How similar/different is it from the other systems you've posted about?
