Just curious what folks think of the available platforms out
there. I know there are plenty of tradeoffs. I am hoping to figure
out a solid combination of broker, trading platform and backtesting
software. I haven't done any backtesting of strategies before and I
really want to try designing strategies, backtesting them and then
paper-trading them for a while and see how it goes. Any info is
greatly appreciated.
Multicharts combined with Interactive Brokers has worked well
for me. And, if you get a lifetime license, there will be no
more fees apart from trading commissions.
only consideration about TS and IB is that you don't have good
tick data for futures and if you want that you have to pay for a
data feed. I used Tradestation with Interactive Brokers for
years and that worked well, too. You just need to trade
enough at TS to cover the monthly platform fee, then trade the rest
at IB............
Multicharts offer a free trial to evaluate although you would
need a data provider. I'm currently using open E-Cry for data who
also offer a 14 day free trial for their Data. If you are using
Interactive Brokers, You can use their data with Multicharts
.
Tradestation, Multicharts or some other combination of products??

I am just going to experiment with Tradestation. Been using Schwab for some time. No solid trading tools.
