what does this market teach us?

It teaches us that all technical analysis is worthless if you don't go with the trend, if you do not trade what the market is doing instead of what you think it should or could do. Forget all the bearish/bullish signals. The powers that be can see them too and can manipulate them. The big drop wont come, can't come until "they" are ready to be short again.

I would add that I can see the market up into the election and then crash afterwards perhaps in a "buy the hope and sell the fact" of the demise of socialist control of congress.

    that is the million dollar

that is the million dollar question.

we always talk about the "markets" as if it were an entity from outer space, yet we are all part of it. How come most of us (I assume) don't really know at any given time where the market is going? We take educated guesses based on tech analysis and indicators etc. but the market moves in great waves (don't even say Elliott here) like starlings in the fall yet most of us seem to be outsiders.

Perthx might be right that anything but the trend is useless conjecture.
