I am using FAZ mech system (7 min eod) on TradeStation and am
getting my short orders rejected. Explanation I got from TS was
that FAZ is not on the easy to borrow list, so the automated order
to sell short gets rejected. This really sucks, as I am missing
some good shorts and it hurts real profitability of the system.
Anybody experiencing similar problems? Any suggestions? Also
to Matt, are we going to see more mech systems on easy to borrow
equities?

TradeStation has not had FAZ and FAS easy to borrow for some
time. I have never had a problem getting shares when I call in the
trade. So you have to be at your computer to do that. I am told
that there is a way to be notified by e-mail through the trade
manager of any strategy trades. Then you would still have to call
in the trade when notified. I am working to resolve this issue.
I don't understand this at all. Couldn't you just buy FAS
instead of shorting FAZ? I know the system results are calculated
with FAZ but the difference should be negligible.
Yes, Multicharts with IB is a very good option. IB
occasionally lacks some stocks to short (AIG comes to mind), but it
doesn't happen often and, when it does, they find shares pretty
quickly. And I've never had them reject a short order for FAZ
or FAS.

There's a FAS system now.

There's a FAS system now. You can automate to go long that mechanical system instead of shorting FAZ if you choose to.

I used to be with Tradestation and switch because of the problem you describe above
currently Im running the strategies via MultiCharts and IB
The other option is to use use Tradestation to send the orders through Tradebullet to IB which i also tried. I found this option to be very buggy.
