I could be mistaken, but I'm seeing a lot of price divergences
across mkts. TZA trend up all day, now appears to be breaking down,
TNA @80.08 was good for a nibble with tight stop.
the setup: US markets down ~ 2+/-% (Europe ~ -2.6%), POMO today
less than $2 billion in long bonds., thin holiday trade (going to
get thinner later this afternoon), what happens if the mkt holds
near the lows or continues to slide nearer the close, will the
'machines' get turned off early? hmmmmm
if I recall, last time we were
down 300+ plus this time of day ..... nah, couldn't
happen....????? but ya never know....
listening to Austin Goolsbee, responding to Rick S. on CNBC, not
worried about rising rates due to foreign concerns of US debt. said
rates so low that even a 250 bp rise wouldn't be a concern.
(HUH? good thing Bernanke didn't say that) such a rise would really
raise US debt service especially (expand deficit) with constant $1
trillion deficits as far as the eye can see. US Treasury has
news release which says 'S&P view is political in nature' -
afraid of what that is supposed to mean. S&P now says US has 1
in 3 chance of debt downgrade from AAA over course of next 2 years.
IMHO, this will give Tea Party advocates more ammunition to hold
congress hostage to the debt ceiling hike. While we may view this
as mere politics, Non US market participates WILL view this as
brinkmanship. 'buckle up', that could be an understatement...
Interesting timing of the debt ceiling
battle as QE2 ends. Keep in mind for today, this is Holiday
week trading, especially at today and tomorrow close - could get
real thin.
haven't found the article, but CNBC snippet said S&P
concerned long term budget/deficit issues won't get fully addressed
until 2013 and that is too far along. not sure if they address the
debt ceiling issue come next month (or July which will be the
'final' deadline.)
news note that Bolivia (via today's news conference) seeking
possible recision of concessions on mines run by PAAS. calling it a
'recovery' not a nationalization
