Options for insurance

Is anyone buying some short term call options on one of the indices for insurance in case the market goes up? I would love to know what your thoughts are on this, especially how short term should one do this if it is a good idea?

How can QID and PSQ which are short the QQQ be down when QQQ is also down? I don't recall seeing this much. Also same with SKF and XLF?

Could someone confirm that "sell on the open" means open of regular hours trading. I just got to thinking about that and wanted to make sure it did not mean at the open of pre-market trading. Thanks so much
