Nice job on holding the Natgas trades guys. In hindsight perhaps
i should have been buying UNG instead of BOIL, leverage in a
powertrend is nasty. Going to make a note in my trading plan. 100%
conviction in the trade, as it's a commodity, not Bed Bath and
Beyond, but didn't add as much as i planned, and the pain memory of
being down caused me to exit with a decent winner, but not
certainly what i had hoped for. Had visions of cigars and champagne
on this trade, ended up with a case of keystone and a pack of
menthols lol, and i don't even smoke. The psychology of this trade
was absolutely fascinating, and worth it, in my opinion.
Thank you! Needs more study, and i need to see how it works on
the short side. Similar i imagine. I usually sell too early lol, so
having some bigger targets, with some technical backup, is very
helpful. More 'r's on winning trades would definitely help with the
profit margin.
Oh you need an entry setup on those, often over the base! Or
somewhere around the 2 or 5 min 20ma on a pullback. Price usually
waits for it to catch up after the first thrust.
Maybe you guys use this, but been working/studying/trading
something pretty awesome, symmetry/momentum intraday, the measured
move i suppose. I guess it's an ABC? Needs a cooler name.
Maybe ZZ Top trade because she's got 2 equal legs? haha.
Essentially it's symmetry applied to intraday moves to find
targets. Sooo many reach the target, almost exactly, it's crazy.
The most important component is the initial thrust, straight up
that doesn't extend too far! A powerful move, without pullbacks.
Something popping on volume, for me it has to be a good chart of
course, not a thrust into ma's or something. Corrects over price or
time, and moves higher, equally! Measure from swing low to swing
high on both legs. I've always loved this trade because it has a
target you can generally rely on, recently starting drawing some
up. Took a couple of these, 90% are right to the penny, some come
up a little short. My number one trade pattern i'd say, at this
point. Works on the gappers as well. Thoughts welcome! Any of you
use this intraday? I know we use on larger time frames.
MOS nice move! I definitely like to look for stocks/patterns
that are diverging, if you will, from the overall market. Works
nicely on intraday trades as well, a stock that's basing i.e. while
the market trends down for example, or vice-versa. Sold most of my
BOIL, will watch for proper entries from here. Exhausting
trade!
UNG nice hourly trend going, held today, 20ma slowly curling
underneath on the daily. Still feel it needs rest, but holding.
WEAT at some long term support with a doji.
CI LLY ELV getting squashed. LLY getting extended from my Sunday
ideas. MOS had decent move, needs rest. BTU into the ma's now, and
WDH=dog lol, that's what happens when i buy a little in the middle
of a pattern.
Like the pattern on AG, silver stock. Potential trend change
setup. A Wide range breakdown, huge volume bar, followed by a
narrow bar. Long over the doji 6.15, stop 5.89. If breaks lower,
it's a continuation play lower, but extended so i'd probably pass
on the short.
That BOIL trade was cray. Finally trimmed some, 6 is my cost
average. Good conviction, but painful. Just don't see 11/12 week
moves like that often, 20 out of 25 red or so going further out.
Will wait for daily setups from here, near the 20, or hourly pivots
etc... just wish it didn't gap every day. I think the bottom is in,
but let's see if we get a trend after a pullback/base. Maybe
daytrade a little KOLD here and there.
Nice Natgas rally. Ideally a gentle pullback on UNG or a few
days of sideways, let the 20ma curl under. Unless it wants to rip
through 9! Weekly 9ma at 10.00ish.
A few ideas. The weakness is healthcare is notable, a move away
from safety perhaps, even in this latest decline has stayed weak.
XLV is a little extended here, so may need a couple days. I noticed
Steve had HCA recently. Short ideas: CI, recent long term trend
break. $300ish resistance, pinching between declining 20 and
the 200ma. ELV nice pattern. LLY multiple 320ish tests. Longs: Coal
name BTU rangebound 25-30, back near 25, slightly aggressive long
term support buy. Lots of support here, room lower if breaks down
out of the pattern. WDH China name, so smaller size, staying
put while China names and market selloff. Long base, beautiful
chart. Should get a nice move either direction it chooses, but
favor higher. MOS good r/s, close above 200, inside bar, ascending
triangle, some resistance above only downside. TWLO at the 20, and
AI small daily bar/hourly are interesting as well.
I trade almost exclusively with the 20ma as a guide, all time
frames. If it's extended away, i look long. SPY Daily is flattish,
and price extended away from the 20, the rising weekly 20 says buy,
curling down monthly says short. Yikes! lol. The trendline backtest
is interesting, pivot support at 393.50 and price is above
the 200ma on all time frames as well. I could see a rally to 405ish
and then re-evaluate, resistance and the declining daily 20ma would
be there by then. Interesting couple months ahead. A rally to
4300 would be awesome.
