Soaring natural gas and electricity prices are starting to hit US industry, and plants are being forced to shut down because of it, sending thousands of workers into unemployment.

At the second-largest aluminum mill in America, accounting for 20% of US supply, about 600 workers are now losing their jobs because the plant can’t afford an electricity tab that’s tripled in a matter of months.

  Century Aluminum Co.says it’ll idle the Hawesville, Kentucky, mill for as long as a year, taking out the biggest of its three US sites.

A shutdown like this can take a month as workers carefully swirl the molten metal into storage so it doesn’t solidify in pipes and vessels and turn the entire facility into a useless brick.

Restarting takes another six to nine months. For this reason, owners don’t halt operations unless they’ve exhausted all other options.

At least two steel mills have also begun suspending some operations to cut energy costs, according to one industry executive, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public.

Do you see a scenario where we go down from here to the 4000 area?  Was thinking SPY before the edit.

SPY up 13.48% since 6/17.  Referencing the charts user MO posted.  Would be interesting to see if a short or sell is triggered by the systems.

I used to subscribe to another newsletter that traded the spy options a long time ago.  He said the Fed can reverse trends and it was difficult for his forecasting models to predict which way the markets will swing.

I'm surprised we didn't add to the existing shorts or that shorts on other systems didn't trigger.

I see we have a lot of trades open on the BTS.  I'm assuming we'll be closing all of them?  3 on the spy ETF, 6 Spy options, 3 ES trades .  Thx.

i don't day trade, but i'm able to log in the community blog around opening and closing to see if matt has made a comment about the system.  i don't think that there is a simple system for everyone, but i'm afraid if it's "tweaked", it might not be as good.   imho.

multiple systems allow me to add to  my position.  

platinum is not showing the same breakout as God and Silver.  Last time Gold hit it's all time high, platinum was trailing and it shot up very fast.  Never really understood why pt is suppressed like this.  Any ideas other than price manipulation.  it keeps getting knocked down to that 800 area.

where do i find the momentum indicator on this website?

I have to agree with Matt and expect a pullback the first week of April, or by the 11th at the latest.  I would venture to wager that the mechanical systems will be short also.
