if you open an account at IB you achieve two things.
First, you can run as many systems as you want on one symbol in one
account -- I've had four SRS systems running in one IB account, it
just melds them all into one big position and buys and sells as the
signals come in..........you have to use TradeBullet to send the
orders from TS to IB. Second, at IB
you achieve being able to get shares to short.
I think it would work itself out though. If you're long and
short 1000 shares in 2 separate accounts, it's the same as having a
0 share position. And that's what the total would be in your single
account if you traded 2 strategies using the same stock in
one account. It's a bit complex to think about, but I think you'll
find that in the end, it gives you the same basic results as two
accounts. (Again, not easy to program right though.)

Yes I agree it would balance out but TS does not allow two
strategies to run on the same symbol with multiple charts. You
could do it with one chart by adding a statement to both strategies
saying If Market Position = 0 then begin. That way only one
strategy at a time would work. I have not tried running two
strategies on the same chart though......

You can run multiple strategies on TS for the same symbol,
provided that they are all in one direction. In other words, if you
are going long only - or short only.
So you can run multiple SRS strategies, if instead of shorting
SRS you buy URE. Of course results for holding the same
$ amount of SRS and URE are not the same as holding the
same symbol long and short - but at least you can run multiple
strategies...
(2) Join the programming into one big strategy (on the same
chart). Say you had a MA cross stratey and a pivot strategy. You
could program the one strategy that it would buy and short $20,000
shares based on the MAs and it would buy and short $20,000 shares
based on the pivot strategy. They would work completely
independently, but they'd be showing up on the same chart, and
would be executed through TS. Not the easiest thing to program
though, since you'd have to make them not interfere with each
other.

You can do the same at Fidelity - but two problems...
1. It takes a lot to qualify for auto trading (for some reason they put as many obstacles as they can in front of you);
2. They never have anything to short, so you need to go long the inverse.
You have to have multiple accounts because with 2 strategies you could be long and short in the same account. You could just run both strategies without the automatic execution checked and then enter

There's 2 ways to do this:
(1) Route your orders to Interactive Brokers.
(2) Join the programming into one big strategy (on the same chart). Say you had a MA cross stratey and a pivot strategy. You could program the one strategy that it would buy and short $20,000 shares based on the MAs and it would buy and short $20,000 shares based on the pivot strategy.
