When a headline is this catchy, first assumption should be that it is bullshit. Ford lightning buyers already  receive the $7500 credit.  The causes of the price increase are likely twofold: 

    1)  If your product has 100s of thousands of reservations, you can probably charge more.

    2) To qualify for the new $7500 credit, a significant amount of the batteries in EVs have to be built in the US and materials sourced either from the US or from free-trade allies. That’ll be more expensive, but worth it to decouple us from China, hence the credit to offset it.

    The truth is almost all EVs will NOT be eligible for the new tax credit at first. Lots of supply chains to move around.
