johan - Stockcharts.com does not appear to have that chart, wish they did, I would love to have a historical chart and apply some indicators to it.
I found it on Tradestation, here's a chart going back to 2008, so it's the largest one day up candle on the chart, otherwise it still has a ways to go to get back to the older peaks

Not even as high as 2011 yet - that is a surprise.
Much less fear now than 2008, but that was of course a meltdown in more markets, so the general level of panic was higher at that time.
Does your [Gold] vix bollinger band indicator apply?
