The overseas markets are mixed. Asia/Pacific closed mostly
up. Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan led the way. Europe
leans to the downside, but there are no big losers.
Futures here in the States indicate a gap down open for the
cash market. NDX down 11.75 and SPX down 8.75. Much of the losses
came around 8:27 am ET.
Columbia Bank and Trust of Topeka, Kansas has failed. It has
been taken over by the FDIC.
Morgan Stanley lowered its year-end forecast for the S&P
to 1300 (only 8 points above Friday’s close).
CF is replacing EDS in the S&P 500, and SAI will be
replacing CF in the S&P 400.
FE was favorably mentioned in Barron’s over the weekend.
PDS is buying GW for $1.12 billion cash and 42 million
shares.
BRCM is buying AMD’s digital TV business.
LDK has said projected 2009 revenue above current Wall Street
estimates.
Gold is down…silver up…crude oil up 77 cents to trade at
$115.36.
The DNC begins tonight. Michelle Obama takes the podium.
Existing Home Sales number comes out an hour before the open.
That’s it for now. Friday was one of the lowest-volume days
of the year…Wall St. expects more of the same today. Shoot for
little gains, not homeruns.
